OUR MISSION, VISION, and VALUES
At Coimbra Adaptive Theatre
MISSION - Coimbra Adaptive Theatre aims to improve the lives of the local disabled population through involvement, creativity, and inclusion. We want to do that in a “safe zone,” free of bullying, abuse, and harassment.
Therefore, our mission at Coimbra Adaptive Theatre is to make theatre, in both onstage and offstage roles, accessible to people with disabilities so that others can see the competence that shines within our Stars. Every role is a starring role.
VISION - Our vision is to redefine the theatrical experience in Coimbra through radical inclusivity, accessibility, and artistic innovation — empowering all of our Stars, both onstage and offstage, to be seen.
Everyone deserves a voice in theatre. We remove barriers - physical, cognitive, and emotional - to artistic participation by adapting form, space, and process to meet diverse needs.
VALUES - Our values are the key principles guiding our purpose. These values define precisely how we operate, how we fulfill our mission, and how we grow to further our reach in our community. They are the uncompromising principles we uphold as we show ourselves to the world, even when no one is watching.
Establishing core values and truly living them can lead to a better organization and world. Therefore,
WE BELIEVE all people deserve to be free from bullying, abuse, and harassment. We will strive to create such a safe space.
WE BELIEVE all of our Stars can shine if given the opportunity. As co-founder Alecia Ramsey says, “We each have our own individual strengths. That’s what makes us Stars.”
WE BELIEVE in respect. We shall presume competence in all of our Stars, knowing they are capable of so much more than many people give them credit for.
WE BELIEVE in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Who you are and what you believe is just as valid as anyone else’s identity and beliefs. We focus on people with physical and developmental disabilities, people who have historically been disadvantaged.
WE BELIEVE in creating an organizational culture in which all of our Stars feel their voices will be heard, and they feel like they belong.
