𝗣𝗢𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗖𝗡𝗢𝗚𝗥𝗔𝗙𝗜𝗔𝗦 - 𝗡𝗢𝗩𝗢 𝗘𝗣𝗜𝗦𝗢́𝗗𝗜𝗢!!!!

𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐍𝐎𝐆𝐑𝐀𝐅𝐈𝐀𝐒 - 𝐍𝐄𝐖 𝐏𝐎𝐃𝐂𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐄𝐏𝐈𝐒𝐎𝐃𝐄!!!
We have just released a new episode of our Portuguese-language podcast, Tecnografias, coordinated by a transnational collective of anthropologists based in Portugal and Brazil.

Tecnografias #5 "Pensar o género a partir dos jogos digitais" with Luciana Lima (ITI / LARSyS, IST-ID)

In this episode, Luciana Lima talks to Gonçalo Santos and Cristina Sá Valentim about her recent book "Pensar o género a partir dos jogos digitais" (Thinking gender with digital games), published in 2023 in Portugal. The conversation focuses on the gender inequalities shaping professional choices in the digital game sector and in STEM areas, covering also the history of the proto-industry of digital games in Portugal and the role of “piracy” in the creation of game consumption and development circuits that would later become an important part of the national cultural imagination. The relevance of intersectional feminist approaches is highlighted with the aim of reducing gender inequalities in the technology sector and paving the way for a fairer and more equitable digital transformation. Also highlighted is the launching of an animated short “Mnema”, scheduled to premiere in 2025, that draws on the empirical materials discussed in the book regarding the challenges faced by women in Portugal participating in the digital games sector.

NEW TECHNOVIEWS EPISODE!!!

The latest episode of our TechnoViews Podcast is now available!!

TechnoViews #19. ‘Soda Science. Making the World Safe for Coca-Cola’ | Susan Greenhalgh (Harvard University)

In this episode, we had the pleasure of talking with anthropologist and science studies specialist Susan Greenhalgh about her most recent book, Soda Science. Making the World Safe for Coca-Cola (University of Chicago Press, 2024). This episode takes TechnoViews listeners deep inside the secret world of corporate science, where powerful companies and allied academic scientists mold research to meet industry needs. The episode discusses how industry leader Coca-Cola mobilized allies in academia to create a soda-defense science that would protect the industry’s profits by advocating physical exercise, not dietary restraint, as the priority solution to the problem of obesity. The goal of soda science was to use science to discourage the introduction of restrictive public policies like soda taxes that would threaten the revenues of giant soda companies like Coca-Cola.
