Since Apollo, astronauts have seen water act in surprising ways—sticking to walls, drifting, and forming bubbles that never behave like they do on Earth. Decades of ISS research, supported by NASA, the ISS National Lab, and NSF, has explored how to guide those bubbles and control fluids in microgravity.

UCSB engineers Longhua Zhu and Paolo Luzzato‑Fegiz, who learned how stubborn bubbles become in orbit. Their work could help redesign how we move heat in space—starting with a single bubble that refuses to let go.
