✨Important Announcement!✨

It has been the ride of a lifetime to watch Black girls dive deep into exploration, confidence, and laughter for over 10 years. It is with this immense joy that we announce the closing of beGirl.world Global Scholars.

We came to this decision together, after deep reflection & conversations with friends, family, mentors and our impeccable Board of Directors. We are proud of all that was accomplished in a decade.

Here’s some (but not all) of our greatest hits:

• Providing over $20,000 in scholarships to Black women in college who were studying abroad
• Providing over 120 passports to Black girls
• Taking Black girls to countries like England, Spain, France and Portugal
• Watching beGirl.world alumni take on the world with global jobs, study abroad and personal travels
• Article features in Forbes, Airbnb, Netflix, Travelnoire and Washington Post
• Featured with Michelle Obama in her documentary, Becoming
• Being on the Tamron Hall Show

The truth is that the landscape of travel has changed, funding is challenging and we have grown as individuals. We would do it all over again if it meant changing the lives of so many, as well as our own. We remain united as friends, Philly girls and co-founders in continuing to support Black people in their wanderlust.

We thank every single one of you who supported us through this journey. The love has been incredible and unforgettable. From staff (past and present), donors, parents, mentors and board - we couldn’t have done this without you.

But above all, at the center of our universe is our girls, who are now all grown women. We love you so very much. You have changed us and it has been our honor to watch you grow professionally and personally. You make us so proud. We are thankful and so very honored to have been part of your journey.

The beGirl.world commitment of community will live on through the generous donations to She Is Focused, Teens of Color Abroad, Philly Youth and Sister2Sister Connection.

We are thankful. We’ll catch you somewhere in the world and toast to all that was and all there is to be.

Our beGirls explored the wonders of Belém and Santa Maria Maior, visiting landmarks like Torre de Belém, Monument to the Discoveries, and Praça do Comércio. The day ended perfectly with a meal at Cervejaria Trindade, a true taste of Lisbon! 🇵🇹🍽️

Join us in congratulating our 2024 bGW Global Scholars bGW Alumni Study Abroad Scholarship winner, Ryann Sterling 🎉🌍⁠

Ryann Sterling is a rising senior at Rutgers University, majoring in Marketing with a minor in Digital Communications and Information Media. She was a participant in beGirl.World’s second cohort from 2017-2019, an interviewer for BeGirl TV, and is currently a Junior mentor for the third cohort. Ryann is studying abroad at the London School of Economics, where she is taking a class in Consumer Behavior for Marketing and Management. Ryann is a great role model of what beGirl.World hopes for its scholars to become, and the organization is incredibly proud of her. She expresses her deep gratitude to beGirl.World for its kindness, love, and support, acknowledging that she wouldn't be where she is today without the organization's impact.

Anacia Macon is a rising senior at Temple University, majoring in Psychology. She is preparing to travel to Rome, Italy, to study psychology. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Anacia has experienced the richness of Black culture in an urban setting but feels the need to explore beyond her city's confines. She views studying abroad as a transformative opportunity to challenge her perspectives, grow academically and personally, and bring new insights back to her community. Anacia believes this experience will help her become a confident, independent, and globally conscious citizen.

We are excited to announce our second 2024 bGW Global Scholars All-Country Study Abroad Scholarship winner, Stephora Cesar Alberi 🎉🌍⁠⁠

Stephora is a rising senior at Salisbury University, majoring in Robotics and Computer Engineering. She is preparing to travel to Tartu, Estonia, where she will engage in a major research project on Artificial Intelligence, developing a high-performance model capable of detecting human emotions. Stephora believes that traveling can inspire Black women to dream bigger, pursue new opportunities, and break the cycle of limited expectations that society often places on them. She encourages Black women to travel not just to see new places, but to expand their worldview, assert their presence globally, and enrich their lives in ways they never thought possible.

Tai Stokes is a rising junior studying finance at Howard University. She had the incredible opportunity to study abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico. Her love for the Spanish language and culture inspired her to embark on this journey. Tai encourages others to study abroad because it is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that profoundly changes one's perspective on the world around them.⁠
