🌈🎬 OPEN CALL | NEW FRAMES – ERASMUS+ TRAINING COURSE!

How can digital storytelling help us challenge stereotypes, rethink LGBTQIA+ representation and create more inclusive spaces for young people?

Join NEW FRAMES, an international Erasmus+ training course exploring photography, filmmaking, media literacy and ethical storytelling as tools for inclusive youth work.

📍 WHERE? Graus, Huesca, Spain 🇪🇸

📅 WHEN? 23–30 November 2026 (travel days included)

👥 WHO? Youth workers aged 20–35, based in France, interested in LGBTQIA+ inclusion, creative education and storytelling.

💸 COST? Accommodation, food and activities are covered by Erasmus+. Travel expenses are reimbursed up to €309 for participants from France, according to project conditions.

🎥 No advanced audiovisual skills needed!

During six days of workshops, we’ll explore representation, consent, narrative power and participatory audiovisual creation, while developing practical tools to bring back to our communities.

2027 is taking shape 👀

Rakonto has changed quite a lot over the past few years. We used to be a small team designing projects around the topics we wanted to explore. Today, we’re becoming something much more collective.

We now have a growing community of active members, so this year we launched our first internal call for project ideas: anyone in the collective could propose something they wanted Rakonto to work on in 2027, and together we discussed which ideas we wanted to bring to life.

And well… this is (part of) the result.

Ecocinema, political art, photography and memory, spaces for organisations to meet and collaborate, our first festivals… all coming from the interests, skills and obsessions of different people within our community.
These projects will be free to participate in, thanks to Erasmus+ and other public funding, and we’ll publish open calls throughout the year.

Some dates might still move, some projects are still waiting for funding, and other ideas are still cooking. So consider this a sneak peek rather than our final 2027 calendar 😛

Oil extraction began transforming the northern Ecuadorian Amazon in the 1960s. Texaco started operating there in 1964, and decades of oil extraction left extensive contamination across territories in what are now Sucumbíos and Orellana. The communities affected have been fighting back for decades.

One of our partners, UDAPT (the Union of People Affected by Texaco’s Oil Operations) brings together six Indigenous nationalities and around 80 campesino communities to fight for environmental remediation, justice and the rights of communities affected by oil contamination, including through the decades-long legal battle against Texaco, now Chevron.

And communication has long been part of that resistance. UDAPT has worked on preserving the memory of this struggle and its youth commission has already been using audiovisual storytelling to document environmental injustice and defend their territories.

Now, together with UDAPT, Guerreras por la Amazonía and Seis Hormigas - Video for change -, we are creating a communication school for young Indigenous, campesino and mestizo activists from the region.

We’re going there to listen, exchange tools and, hopefully, put more cameras in the hands of the people who call the Amazon home 📷🌱

We have a loooooot of contradictions 🫠

But the truth is, it’s almost impossible not to contradict ourselves while living inside the very systems we’re trying to change. We still have bills to pay, deadlines to meet, algorithms to navigate and habits we’ve spent our whole lives learning.

Knowing what kind of world we want to live in doesn’t mean we’ve already unlearned everything the current one taught us.

Maybe noticing the contradiction is already part of the process.

So yes, question the systems around you. Question your habits too. But be kind to yourself while doing it. 💛

We talk a lot about utopias at Rakonto, about imagining radically different futures. But how are we supposed to dream about the future when our most basic needs aren’t even met?

In 2026, having a roof over your head shouldn’t be a utopia. We stand in solidarity with all the Mari Carmens, and with everyone being pushed out of their neighbourhoods, spending most of their income on rent or watching the places they call home become places they can no longer afford to live in.

The housing crisis is global. And it is political. Homes are increasingly treated as assets to accumulate wealth and speculate with, rather than places where people build their lives. Meanwhile, access to something as basic as a safe and stable place to live becomes more and more precarious.

Maybe our utopias should start much further ahead than this. We shouldn’t have to use our imagination to picture a world where our basic rights are guaranteed. We want to dream much bigger than that.

Homes are for living, not for speculation.

For this new chapter of Imagine Otherwise: 2050, we spoke with Adrián Díaz, member of Colectivo Yupanqui, to imagine the future of music. 🎶🌍

For Adrián, the future of music could mean bringing music back into everyday life: more live music, stronger local scenes, greater access to music education and more spaces to play, dance and create together. As AI and algorithms increasingly shape what we hear, he imagines we might value what feels human, imperfect and rooted in community even more.

And parts of this future already exist. Collectives such as Conuco Colectiva Leipzig and ancestros music alongside Colectivo Yupanqui are already exploring music as a way of bringing people together and building community. 🪇

💭 What is one thing about the way we experience music today that you hope people will find strange in 2050? We’d love to read your ideas in the comments.

We did the maths and… we’re still processing it. 😮

Behind every number in this post there are people who travelled across Europe, created something together, shared skills, questioned things, made new friends and imagined different futures with us. 🌱🎥🫂

And somehow, in just one year, that became 22 projects, 251 participations, 57 partner organisations from 24 countries, 94 artworks, 7 educational resources and 6 public events.

But probably the numbers we’re proudest of are these: 60.6% of our participants were young people with fewer opportunities, and 72.1% travelled green to our projects. 🚆🌍

None of this would exist without the slightly chaotic, very committed community of artists, activists, youth workers, partners, volunteers and friends that keeps Rakonto alive. 💛

Our General Assembly is coming on October 4th, so it felt like a good moment to look back before deciding together what comes next.
