CEASEFIRE EXISTS IN NAME ONLY

One year after its agreement, the ceasefire in is in name only. The genocide and suffering continues, with Israeli forces killing and injuring Palestinians daily, and ongoing blocks to the entry of lifesaving aid, medical supplies and other vital repair equipment and building materials.

This is not a ceasefire. The killing and deprivation in Gaza must not be normalised under the cover of an agreement. The international community’s responsibility does not end with an agreement on paper.

كثير من النساء، والشباب، والأشخاص ذوي الإعاقة، والتعاونيات العاملة في القطاع الزراعي ما بوصلوا للخدمات المالية وصعب عليهم الاستفادة منها، مش لأنهم ما بدهم بل بسبب حواجز بنيوية واقتصادية وأخرى مرتبطة بالاحتلال، وضعف الوصول للمعلومات.

فالشمول المالي مش بس الوصول للخدمات، بل أيضًا أن تكون هذه الخدمات واضحة، مفهومة، مناسبة، ميسّرة، عادلة وسهلة الاستخدام للجميع. فالقطاع الزراعي مهمش وغير منظم ويواجه تحديات تتجاوز التمويل، فالقيود على الأرض والمياه والحركة والأسواق بتزيد من المخاطر على المزارعين والمزارعات وبتهمش حقوقهم. عشان هيك، تحقيق الشمول المالي بيحتاج خدمات مالية مصممة لتناسب هذا الواقع، مش نموذج واحد بناسب الجميع.

التمويل العادل يبدأ من لغة بسيطة، شروط مفهومة، ومعلومة واضحة بتوصل لكل الناس.

She once made cleaning products at home to help support her family.

Today, amid Israel’s genocide on Gaza, she is displaced in Gaza City and struggles to find enough water just to bathe her grandchildren.

Some days, she walks for half an hour to collect water and carries it back to the tent where she lives with her family. Every drop has to be measured. Water used to wash dishes or clothes is saved and reused. Every day brings impossible choices:

Do we bathe the children or wash the dishes?
Do we wash clothes or save the water for the bathroom?

“Water is a blessing. But carrying it has become a curse.”

Behind Gaza’s water crisis are families making these calculations every single day — trying to keep their children clean, protect them from disease and preserve their dignity when every litre of water counts.

She once made detergent.

“Now I need water just to clean.”

Safe water is not a luxury. It is essential for health, dignity and life.

Oxfam continues to call for a permanent ceasefire, an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the lifting of Israel’s siege, with crossings opened to allow the safe and unrestricted flow of people, humanitarian aid, goods and equipment urgently needed to restore essential services.

“Water is part of a woman’s dignity,” Walaa says.

In a displacement camp in Gaza, this expectant mother wakes up every day to a harsh reality. In the early stages of pregnancy, Walaa should be focused on her health and the life growing inside her. Instead, her days are consumed by the search for water.

Water production, pumping and distribution systems are at breaking point, threatening public healthcare, safe water access, and waste collection.

For pregnant women and others like Walaa, the cycle never stops: waiting beside rows of empty jerrycans, walking long distances, and carrying heavy gallons that no pregnant woman should have to lift.

As she carries that weight, she asks the world: “For how long?”

Oxfam and its partners are working on the ground, but aid alone cannot fix this. Water systems depend largely on ageing generators that urgently need to be replaced. To restore dignity and safety, there must be a real and permanent ceasefire, an end to Israel’s genocide in Gaza, and the full lifting of the siege so that water, food, fuel, and essential equipment can enter without restrictions.

After mass forced displacement, hunger and loss as a result of Israel's ongoing on , needs continue to be acute. Vital water infrastructure has been damaged at scale, and major restrictions remain, limiting access to water.

Limited water means limited hygiene. Without enough water to bathe or clean, skin diseases are spreading rapidly, especially among women and children. In camps, delayed bathing for days due to water shortages is worsening health risks. Hygiene is not just about comfort; it is a matter of health and prevention.

For women in , water does not come from a tap. After mass forced displacement and major levels of damage to vital water infrastructure, accessing water involves travelling long distances, sometimes nearly a kilometer away. Women spend hours walking and waiting in line to secure small amounts of water for their families. The journey is exhausting, the containers are heavy, and the supply is never enough.

Water is life. But for many women in Gaza, it has become a luxury they cannot afford.

After mass forced displacement, hunger and loss as a result of Israel's ongoing genocide on Gaza, needs are acute. Catastrophic levels of damage to vital water infrastructure and major access restrictions has led, in some displacement camps, to people surviving on just 3 liters of water a day, while the humanitarian minimum is 15 liters.

This severe shortage forces women to reuse the same water for washing dishes, clothes, and daily cleaning, stretching every drop to its limit.

“Without continued support, people with disabilities become even more vulnerable.”
Safety is about more than physical shelter. It is also about having a place to feel supported and protected amidst Israel's ongoing genocide in Gaza.
