ARIJ Briefs a Swedish Delegation on LIFT Palestine’s Agricultural Interventions in Aqaba
The Applied Research Institute–Jerusalem (ARIJ) hosted a delegation from the Swedish Consulate, the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), and the Swedish organization We Effect in the town of Aqaba, Tubas Governorate. The visit aimed to observe firsthand the agricultural and development interventions implemented by ARIJ under the LIFT Palestine Programme, funded by Swedish development assistance, managed by We Effect, and implemented in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture.

🌿 Restoring and Protecting Al-Manfousia Rangeland Reserve – Bani Na’im

The Land Research Center has completed key infrastructure works in the reserve, including 11 km of fencing, 20 gates, 3.1 km of rehabilitated roads and 1.44 km of newly opened roads.

🐑 Fencing and gates help regulate grazing, reduce overgrazing and give native vegetation and fodder plants space to recover.

🌱 Better access roads support sustainable grazing, management and monitoring, while protecting biodiversity, rangeland ecosystems and livestock resources.

📍 5.7 km of new agricultural roads in Jenin

MA’AN Development Center with We Effect and in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture, has completed 5.7 km of agricultural roads in Kafr Dan, Ti’inik and Silat al-Harithiya, Jenin.

The roads improve farmers’ access to their land, facilitate agricultural transport, and support local production and farmers’ resilience.

The intervention was implemented under LIFT Palestine, funded by the Government of Sweden, managed by We Effect, and implemented by MA’AN Development Center in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture

Yesterday, We Effect management met with Sida in Stockholm to present the LIFT Palestine Programme and highlight the important work being delivered by our local partners across Palestine.

The discussion showcased how, despite an extremely challenging and rapidly changing context, our partners continue to deliver critical interventions that support farmers’ livelihoods, agricultural infrastructure, food systems, and community resilience.

Through strong partnerships with local communities, civil society organizations, municipalities, and the Ministry of Agriculture, LIFT continues to translate support into practical action on the ground—helping farmers maintain access to land and water, improve production, and strengthen their livelihoods.

We are grateful to Sida for its continued support and to all our partners and communities for their commitment and resilience under exceptionally difficult circumstances.

Together, we continue to invest in resilient livelihoods and stronger food systems in Palestine. 🌱🇵🇸

Partnerships to Strengthen Agriculture in Jenin 🌱💧

Seven partnership agreements were signed under the LIFT Palestine Programme to support agricultural infrastructure and farmers’ resilience in Jenin.

The activities include:

* Rehabilitation of 6.5 km of agricultural roads
* Solar systems for two agricultural wells
* Installation of 4 km of water pipelines

Improving Agricultural Roads in Aqaba, Tubas 🌱🚜

Rehabilitation is underway on three agricultural roads covering a total of 4,050 metres, improving farmers’ access to their land and facilitating the transport of agricultural products and inputs.

The intervention also aims to reduce the impact of flooding, protect agricultural land, and strengthen farmers’ resilience and livelihoods.

Strengthening Agricultural Water Infrastructure in Aqaba, Tubas 🌱💧

A 1,050-meter agricultural water pipeline has been installed in Aqaba, Tubas, improving access to irrigation water, supporting farmers’ livelihoods, and strengthening community resilience to climate challenges.

The initiative is implemented by ARIJ under the LIFT Palestine Programme, funded by Swedish development assistance, managed by We Effect, and in partnership with the Palestinian Ministry of Agriculture.

Supporting the Development of Bani Na’im Rangeland

On 28 September 2026, Land Research Center handed over equipment for a 4.5 km electricity network to Bani Na’im Municipality, supporting the development of infrastructure and agricultural and pastoral services in the Al-Manfousiya Pastoral Reserve in Hebron.

The equipment includes 4,500 metres of insulated aerial cable (ABC), electricity poles, and the necessary installation and grounding materials.

The network will provide electricity to operate water pumps and ensure water availability for irrigating seedlings and crops and supporting livestock—helping strengthen sustainable agricultural and pastoral activities in the reserve. 🌿💧🐑
