Bunyan Association for Community Development implemented a series of group Psychological First Aid (PFA) sessions targeting women, girls, and persons with disabilities in several shelters across Gaza City. These sessions were part of the emergency psychosocial interventions carried out by the Association in response to the difficult humanitarian and psychological conditions experienced by displaced families.
The sessions aimed to provide participants with initial psychological support and help them cope with stress and emotional reactions associated with the current circumstances. They also sought to strengthen participants’ coping and adaptation capacities, create a safe environment where they could express their feelings and needs, and promote a spirit of mutual support and collective solidarity.
The sessions included a range of psychological and guidance activities, most notably stress management, emotional ventilation, relaxation skills training, cognitive restructuring of negative thoughts, and behavioral activation. They also provided safe spaces for free expression, interaction, and participation, contributing to a greater sense of safety and psychological and social support.
The Association emphasized that these interventions are part of its professional and ethical responsibility toward the community and reflect its commitment to responding to the psychological and social needs of groups most affected by crises, particularly women, girls, persons with disabilities, and displaced families.
These programs and interventions are implemented by a specialized team of psychologists and professionals at Bunyan Association for Community Development, with field-based efforts extending across various governorates of the Gaza Strip. This approach enhances access to target groups and ensures the provision of psychological and social services that take into account their needs and circumstances.
Bunyan Association continues its efforts to implement emergency psychological and social interventions, driven by its belief in the importance of promoting mental health, strengthening resilience and coping capacities, and contributing to mitigating the psychological and social impacts resulting from the ongoing crises and humanitarian conditions.
