In the month of July 2012, a group of Palestinians and International Solidarity Activists met up to discuss the situation of Idhna village, located in Hebron. With several demolitions and more demolitions on the rise, this brand new Palestinian-led initiative was formed, aiming to rebuild new eco-friendly and practical homes for the Palestinian families who have had their homes bulldozed by Israel
i Forces. Our project seeks to support Palestinians that wish to rebuild their homes, through our main founders, Sami Natsheh and Islam Maraqa, also founders of the Hebron Defence Committee, who both work from Palestine, and co-founder international activist Selin Avla currently located and co-ordinating from the UK. The target for the initial stages of this project is to build 15 homes in the village of Idhna, located in southern Hebron near the apartheid wall built by Israel and classified as the so called ‘closed military zone’. Once successful, we will then branch out to other villages in Southern Hebron, then eventually across the West Bank. Each home will run on self generated bio-energy, allowing Palestinians to be in complete control of their livelihood and space, independent from state actors, whether this be Israel or the Palestinian Authority, through means such as solar energy panels and biomass. We are a project based entirely on volunteer efforts as well as donations from around the world and are always seeking volunteers to work in and outside of Palestine.
