After a hiatus of more than two years due to the war of annihilation in Gaza, the 10th Palestine International Marathon kicked off yesterday in Bethlehem and Gaza , with participants from numerous Palestinian cities.

This year’s marathon began simultaneously in Bethlehem and Gaza. Many Gaza participants some with amputated limbs, were determined to take part.
This underscores how the occupation has geographically divided the Palestinian people while their sense of belonging remains unbroken.
The CPT team joined enthusiastically, demonstrating their support, solidarity, and resilience in defending the right to freedom of movement in Palestine, a land fragmented by checkpoints and settlements.

Across the streets of the West Bank, extremist Israeli settlers continue to hang racist slogans calling for the expulsion of the Palestinian people from their homeland. These banners openly deny the existence and future of Palestinians, declaring that this land belongs only to settlers and that Palestinians must be erased from it. One particularly disturbing slogan, displayed at intersections in Hebron, urges Netanyahu to make a decisive move to annex the entire West Bank. The message makes it chillingly clear: in their view, “Netanyahu, now is the time to decide: Sovereignty or Palestine”

Today, more than 700,000 settlers live illegally in settlements constructed on stolen Palestinian land, in direct violation of international law. These settlers are not passive residents; they enforce their presence through violence, intimidation, and terror. From attacks on farmers and shepherds to the burning of olive groves, the destruction of homes, and even outright killings, settler violence has become a systematic tool of displacement. Families are forced off their land, their livelihoods destroyed, while the world watches in silence.

The Israeli occupation army, instead of restraining settler violence, actively reinforces it. Entire cities and villages across the West Bank are placed under closure. Military checkpoints, gates at village entrances, and roadblocks suffocate daily life, preventing Palestinians from reaching their schools, workplaces, hospitals, and even their own farmland. Movement becomes a daily struggle, designed to break the spirit of the people and force them into submission.

This dual system of settler colonialism and military control is not just a violation of Palestinian rights; it is a crime against humanity. The racist slogans plastered across Hebron and other parts of the West Bank are not isolated incidents of extremism; they reflect the deeper policies of dispossession and erasure that Palestinians face every single day. Yet despite these unbearable conditions, Palestinians remain steadfast, holding on to their land, their history, and their right to exist in freedom and dignity.

Israeli soldiers armed with advanced weapons detained two Palestinian children, aged five and seven.

Mohammed, five-and-a-half, and his seven-year-old brother, Abdel Fattah, were playing with a ball near the Bab al-Baladiya area in the Old City of Hebron. A settler wanted to enter a nearby house that settlers had taken over months earlier under soldiers’ protection. As Mohammed approached the gate used by settlers to exit, a large group of Israeli soldiers arrived, surrounded the two boys, and detained them.

The soldiers spoke to the children in Hebrew, photographed them, and accused them of spying. They later raided the family’s home and threatened the father with a heavy fine if the children went near the Bab al-Baladiya area again. The soldiers also warned that the children could be imprisoned.

Since the incident, both boys have been deeply traumatized. They are afraid to leave the house, refuse to go to school, and live in constant fear of night raids.

On Sunday, the 3rd of August, Israeli occupation forces closed off the Bab al-Zawiya area in central Hebron, forcing shops to shut down in one of the city’s busiest districts, usually filled with shoppers and visitors. The closure was imposed to secure the way for Israeli settlers to storm the area and hold Talmudic prayers.

A grave, located in the basement of a Palestinian home on Beer Al-Saba’a Street, served as the settlers’ destination. During the raid, occupation forces completely prohibited Palestinian movement, evacuated passers-by, and deployed snipers on rooftops to prevent residents from passing through or returning to their homes until the settlers had finished. During the incursion, the occupation forces shot a Palestinian youth, injuring him with live ammunition.

According to Israeli sources, settlers “visit” the area several times a year, carrying out raids under the pretext of visiting the grave. In Palestine, such “visits” to so-called holy sites take place at the expense of persecuting residents, denying them movement, forcibly blocking them from their own neighborhoods or even killing them. Only in Palestine…

Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) extends our deepest condolences for the martyrdom of Awda al-Hathalin, a resident and activist from the village of Umm al-Khair in Masafer Yatta. Awda was shot in the chest by an Israeli settler while bravely defending his village’s land from bulldozing and seizure. Israeli forces prevented Palestinian medical personnel from attending to him, and Awdah was left bleeding before being transferred to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. During the same incident, Ahmed al-Hathalin, another resident of Umm al-Khair, was also injured after being struck by a bulldozer.

Awda was a father of three children, and an English teacher in the Masafer Yatta schools. He was known for his dedication to his community and his tireless advocacy for the rights of the people of Umm al-Khair. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him. Awda al-Hathalin’s courage and commitment will not be forgotten. He remains a symbol of steadfast resistance and love for his land and people.

On the night of Friday, June 26, 2025, a group of Israeli settlers attacked the Turkish Bath owned by Abu Oday in the Old City of Hebron. Although the bath remains under the family’s ownership, the entrance facing Al-Shuhada Street has been sealed off by Israeli military orders since the year 2000. Abu Oday’s son was present inside one of the rooms connected to the Turkish Bath when settlers، some of whom were wearing Israeli military uniforms — broke through the closed door and entered the site. The settlers began vandalizing the interior, destroying parts of the structure and smashing windows. Alarmed, the son initially fled, thinking they were soldiers. When he returned to clarify, the settlers physically assaulted him, beat him, and left him on the ground.

Later, actual Israeli soldiers arrived with the Israeli Civil Administration but instead of holding the settlers accountable they confiscated the keys to the Turkish Bath from Abu Oday. The keys were returned the following day without explanation.

This incident reflects a systematic pattern of settler violence, military complicity, and the targeting of Palestinian cultural spaces in Hebron. The use of settler aggression, especially by individuals impersonating soldiers, not only spreads fear but serves as a tool of displacement. It also reveals how the Israeli military and civil authorities enable such actions by protecting settlers and undermining Palestinian property rights. The closure of Al-Shuhada Street and attacks on sites like the Turkish Bath are part of a larger strategy to isolate Palestinians, erase cultural identity, and impose control over Hebron’s Old City through intimidation and force.

Recently, the Israeli occupation has increasingly taken over Palestinian homes in city centers, expelling residents or severely restricting their freedom of movement. In some cases, soldiers force entire families to remain confined to a single room, allowing them to leave only under urgent circumstances and only with soldiers’ permission.

In the past few weeks, around sixteen soldiers stormed the home of Umm Firas. They forced all family members into one room and turned the rest of the house into a military post. The soldiers controlled who could enter or exit and even restricted access to the bathroom. On the first day, they prevented Umm Firas herself from entering her home, confiscated the family’s phones and electricity cards, and searched through their photos and social media accounts.

The following day, the family’s pregnant daughter-in-law felt dizzy from being stuck in the crowded, poorly ventilated room. When a family member asked to use a phone to call an ambulance, the soldiers initially refused; only when they saw her condition worsening did they finally agree. Meanwhile, the family’s young children were terrified by the soldiers occupying the rooms of their own home.

Placing soldiers inside civilian homes and confining families amounts to using residents as human shields. Sadly, this is just one example among several recent incidents in which Palestinian homes have been taken over and residents displaced.
