Koupiansk comptait 27 000 habitants avant la guerre. Moins de 400 aujourd’hui. Une ville presque vide, tenue à bout de bras, en première ligne.

Le message d’Andriï à l’Europe est sans ambiguïté : rester aux côtés de l’Ukraine n’est pas qu’un choix moral, c’est une nécessité stratégique. 🇺🇦🇪🇺🇫🇷

Andriy Kanashevych, head of the civil-military administration of the Kupyansk region, gave us a rare interview in French.

Kupyansk was home to 27,000 people before the war. Fewer than 400 remain today. A city held together by sheer will, on the front line.

🇺🇦 Derrière nos missions en Ukraine, il y a des visages. Des personnes qui ont tout perdu. Qui nous ont raconté leur évacuation, leur crainte de mourir, leur maison détruite, leurs blessures, leur vie brisée.

Et puis il y a celles et ceux qui leur viennent en aide : des professionnels et des volontaires, des équipes qui travaillent 24h/24, prêtes à partir dès qu’une explosion retentit, dès qu’une évacuation est décidée. Des femmes et des hommes qui accueillent, orientent et soutiennent des familles arrachées à leur maison, souvent sans rien.

C’est cette Ukraine-là que nous avons voulu documenter : une Ukraine résiliente, organisée, debout, courageuse, mais qui porte le poids de quatre années de guerre et d'un hiver particulièrement éprouvant.

Behind our missions in Ukraine are real people. People who have lost everything. They told us about their evacuation, their fear of dying, their destroyed homes, their injuries, and their shattered lives.

And then there are those who come to their aid: professionals and volunteers, teams working around the clock, ready to go the moment an explosion rings out, the moment an evacuation is ordered. Women and men who welcome, guide, and support families torn from their homes, often with nothing.

It is this Ukraine that we wanted to document: a resilient, organized, steadfast, and courageous Ukraine, yet one that bears the weight of four years of war and a particularly grueling winter.

За нашими місіями в Україні стоять обличчя. Люди, які втратили все. Які розповіли нам про свою евакуацію, про страх смерті, про зруйновані домівки, про поранення, про зруйновані життя.

А ще є ті, хто їм допомагає: професіонали та волонтери, команди, які працюють цілодобово, готові вирушати, щойно пролунає вибух, щойно буде прийнято рішення про евакуацію. Жінки та чоловіки, які приймають, орієнтують та підтримують сім’ї, вирвані зі своїх домівок, часто без нічого.

Саме таку Україну ми хотіли задокументувати: стійку, організовану, непохитну, мужню, але таку, що несе на собі тягар чотирьох років війни та особливо важкої зими.

L'Ukraine nous impressionne. Par son courage, son hospitalité, sa beauté, son architecture, mais surtout par ce qu'elle représente : un carrefour géopolitique majeur, au cœur de l'Europe, qui se bat pour sa souveraineté et, avec elle, pour la nôtre.

Ce qui se joue ici nous concerne tous. Aider l'Ukraine, c'est défendre un projet commun, celui d'une Europe libre et démocratique.

Les moyens d'agir sont nombreux. Chacun peut trouver le sien. 💙💛
