🌿 Gaza Culture & Development Group Launches the “Together Toward Recovery—Phase Two” Project
In early September, the Gaza Culture & Development Group in partnership with the Palestinian American Medical Association (PAMA) launched the “Together Toward Recovery—Phase Two” project to promote mental health and provide psychosocial support to children and caregivers in the Gaza Strip through specialized interventions based on the “CABAC” methodology and the guidelines of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC).
The project extends over “9 months” in two integrated phases and is based on a methodology that focuses on needs assessment and determining appropriate levels of intervention, ensuring that services are tailored to the actual needs of the target groups.
As part of an “evidence-based approach,” the project includes conducting a baseline assessment of approximately “2,000 children” using the “GAD-7, PHQ-8, and GHQ-12” to identify levels of psychological need, selecting the most vulnerable groups in need of support, and guiding subsequent interventions based on the assessment results and measurement indicators.
The project also includes a range of psychological, social, and interactive interventions, along with artistic and expressive activities, most notably "marionette theater (puppetry), which will be used as an interactive tool to help children express their feelings and experiences and to promote communication and adaptation within a safe and supportive environment.
In line with this framework, GCDG held a preparatory meeting with the project team and the psychologists involved in implementation to ensure the team’s readiness and standardize work methodologies and mechanisms before the start of field interventions. The meeting included a review of the implementation plan, mechanisms for applying assessment tools, methodologies for delivering psychosocial interventions, and a clarification of roles and responsibilities, as well as a discussion of follow-up, documentation, and referral mechanisms based on the levels of need identified by the assessment results.
The meeting featured the participation of Prof. Rania Abu Seir, Executive Director of the PAMA Association and the Country Director of PAMA in Palestine, who participated via video conference from the West Bank; Dr. Bassam Abu Hamad, A Health consultant in Gaza; Engineer Hussein Murtaja, Executive Director of the Gaza Culture and Development Group; and the project team and psychologists involved in the project.
The project is part of GCDG efforts to address the growing psychological and social needs of children and caregivers in the Gaza Strip and to strengthen their ability to adapt and cope with challenges through specialized interventions and safe spaces for support, expression, and recovery.
“Together Toward Recovery… Toward a psychological and social response more closely aligned with the needs of children and caregivers in the Gaza Strip.”
