A Journey Through the Memory of the Land and the Roots of Palestinian Identity
As the olive harvest season unfolds, students from the Education Program at Aida Youth Center visited the village of Al-Walaja to discover “Al-Badawi Tree,” one of the oldest olive trees in Palestine, estimated to be around 5,500 years old.
During the visit, the students listened to Abu Ali share stories about the tree’s history and the memories rooted in the land. They also learned about the role of previous generations in protecting Palestinian land and preserving its heritage.
The visit was an opportunity to strengthen values of cooperation, belonging, and respect for elders as keepers of our collective memory. It also reminded the students that the olive harvest is more than an agricultural season; it is a cherished family and national tradition that deepens our connection to the land and our identity.
In Palestine, the olive tree is a story of the land, a memory passed down through generations, and a symbol of roots that will never fade.
