A Sunday of Service and Gratitude

Today at COREFI, we experienced something truly beautiful.

While many were resting on this Sunday, two extraordinary volunteers were quietly working behind the scenes—giving their time, their hands, and most importantly, their hearts. What they did was not simply work. It was service. It was love in action. It was a commitment to quality, care, and dignity for the people we serve.

Their work may not always be visible to everyone, but its impact is deeply felt. Every detail completed with excellence, every hour freely given, and every act done with compassion helps move our mission forward and brings hope to our Vieques community.

At COREFI, we are profoundly grateful for volunteers who understand that this is more than lending a hand. This is community caring for community.

We are not just a nonprofit organization. We are not a social club. We are a legacy with purpose—a living promise to serve with dignity, nourishment, hope, and love.

To our two Sunday volunteers: thank you for your faithful, behind-the-scenes service. You are part of the heartbeat of COREFI. Because of people like you, the work continues, lives are touched, and the legacy grows.

Today we honor the life and legacy of our founder, Sonia Ventura de Morales — a Viequense woman whose compassion shaped the heart of COREFI.

Sonia believed that every elder in Vieques deserved dignity, nourishment, and love. What began as her personal mission to care for neighbors in need grew into the organization we are today — a community kitchen, a support network, and a beacon of hope for our island.

Her vision continues to guide every meal served, every home visited, and every act of kindness shared. Sonia’s spirit lives in the hands of every volunteer and in the hearts of every elder we serve.
