Casita Esperanza

Casita Esperanza Founded after Hurricane Maria, Casita Esperanza facilitates collaboration between guest and reconstruction efforts for a more conscious tourism

Casita Esperanza is an all-encompassing project; we strive to respond to the new challenges posed by the humanitarian crisis stemming from an inadequate governmental response to the disaster. Indeed, the inefficacity of the official disaster response team, paired with the amount of destruction, has forced grassroots initiatives to step up and take a more important role in reconstruction and relief

efforts, increasing the need for volunteer work. This project responds to the current situation by providing an alternative travel experience that would fuel reconstruction endeavors. Our approach offers facilitation between the visitor and relief effort for a more conscious tourism. Casita Esperanza revolves around three pillars: Coordination, Reconstruction and Sustainability. We strive to facilitate the volunteering process. That means, not only hosting travelers in a place tailor made to fit their needs, but also coordinating, with our partners to place them where their skills would be needed. By equipping them with relevant tools (power tools, gloves, etc.) we allow them to be useful on site, we . In addition, we provide transportation to and from volunteering sites, as well as to-go meals. Our goal is to make volunteering easy for visitors while providing much needed workforce to grassroots organizations.
