Solidaire

Solidaire Solidaire Network is a community of donor organizers mobilizing critical resources to the frontlines of social justice movements.

We envision a world where every individual lives with dignity, health and the ability to pursue his or her ideal of happiness; a world where racism, economic exploitation, and disregard for the wellbeing of the planet no longer destroy whole communities to benefit the few; a world where all people have power to shape the decisions that affect their lives, and to flourish. We stand in solidarity as

we struggle towards that new world. Solidaire is represented by Solidaire Network, a 501(c)(3) organization, and Solidaire Action, its fiscally-sponsored 501(c)(4) affiliate.

Our partners and comrades welcomed our team in Puerto Rico last week with open arms, laughter, dancing, delicious food, and solidarity.

We were honored to witness the spiritual and political fortitude of Puerto Rican communities who carry a long legacy of resistance.

reminded us so beautifully that our movements for self determination and democracy must be truly rooted in care and trusting relationships. We were deeply moved by the stories they shared about their violence intervention work and the communities they are transforming through service and mutual aid.

reflected to us how intertwined organizing across Puerto Rico is. Maria Fund is truly serving an aligned intermediary role with a clear political purpose - and doing it with much care and love. The infrastructure role they play is so critical to building power on the island.

Shout out to our incredible Executive Assistant and Governance Coordinator Dali Ortiz for welcoming us in Puerto Rico so graciously and ensuring that we moved with intention, care, and political context for the land and community.

Solidarity and survival for our liberation ✊ Thank you for sharing a powerful, immersive experience with our team this morning - a 170 ft scroll illustrating the history of struggle, mutual aid, and liberatory organizing in Puerto Rico, passed in a circle as we sang. We take with us a felt sense of the realities of this land and of the importance of our work together. May the mass movement building that Puerto Ricans show us to be possible bless us now and always.

In nature, a caterpillar completely dissolves into a gooey, magical state before emerging as a butterfly. We believe the same kind of transformation happens when private foundations spend-out. In other words, we believe a shift from wealth accumulation to wealth redistribution gets us closer to a just and regenerative economy. 🦋

Join Solidaire and Justice Funders on March 18 to hear firsthand spend-out stories from foundation leaders and a powerful, transformational conversation on reimagining philanthropy and moving money and resources in service of justice.

We can't wait to hear from this incredible line-up of speakers, including our own Philanthropic Transformation Strategist Farhad Ebrahimi!

Disaster capitalism is already emerging in Los Angeles, threatening to exploit tragedy for profit. We cannot allow this moment to become a breeding ground for predatory development, deregulation or the rollback of our progressive wins.

Philanthropy must meet this moment in a way that strengthens our movements, defends hard-won gains, and builds a future rooted in justice and solidarity!

Vanessa Priya Daniel has announced a 10 city book tour with a powerful lineup of conversation partners to launch Unrig the Game: What Women of Color Can Teach Everyone About Winning (Random House, 2025).

Drawing on interviews with 45 women of color leaders across U.S. social justice movements, including our own Rajasvini Bhansali, and her own insights from 15 years in leadership, she shares what makes so many women of color powerful leaders, what is blocking and weathering them (at great cost to movements), and what we can all do about it.

Unrig the Game: What Women of Color Can Teach Everyone About Winning (Random House, March 4, 2025). RSVP today, space is limited.

It has never been more critical to flank our best and brightest movement leaders – so many of whom are women of color – than it is as we head into the fight of our lives against fascism. The future is feminist, decolonized, sustainable, fair and kind. We are undeterred in seeking it, and we will need our full strength.

In Unrig the Game, I share wisdom from 45+ women of color social justice leaders on how movements win, and what we can all do to make leadership positions less treacherous for themDolores Huerta calls Unrig the Game “A treasure! Amazing, instructive, and inspirational.” LaTosha Brown says it’s, “Essential reading for everyone who wants progressive movements to win,” and Ash-Lee Woodard Henderson calls it, “a road map for being a strong WOC leader, and how to flank WOC who answer the call.

The stakes are high right now for many family foundations and progressive donors with inherited wealth. Our members are showing what’s possible in this moment when donors own their lane, challenge family norms and take on the brave work of reshaping complex legacies of wealth and power into something they’re proud of.

It’s philanthropy’s job right now to figure out how to keep supporting grassroots social justice movements. Read the full article - link in bio - to learn how members of and Solidaire are doing just that.

Shout out to members Tema Okun, Leah Hunt-Hendrix, David Roswell, Becky Silverstein and Naomi Sobel alongside our Organizing Director Isaac Lev Szmonko who voiced powerful messages for this feature by Sara Herschander for The Chronicle of Philanthropy.

It is our great privilege to organize donors who are doing the healing work of reshaping complex legacies of wealth and power into something they are proud of.

A growing number of progressive young donors — and heirs to mining, oil, and other fortunes — are reshaping their family’s philanthropy. They are finding support through organizations like Resource Generation and Solidaire.
