Shutdown summary for today;
After this government shutdown, which had become the longest in history at 43 days, has officially ended. Last night, the House of Representatives passed a bill to reopen the government by a vote of 222 to 209.
This time same as happened in the Senate, Six Republicans had crossed the isle and joined in supporting the measure, providing the necessary votes for passage despite the narrow Republican majority.
The bill funds federal agencies through January 30, 2026, that includes three year-long provisions for the Department of Veterans Affairs, USDA and FDA, and legislative branch operations within their current special legislation.
President Donald Trump signed the bill into law on last night to after commenting; "The country has never been in better shape," and framed the reopening as a political victory for Republicans, urging voters to remember Democratic actions in the upcoming 2026 midterm elections”.
In Puerto Rico as we don’t vote for the US President, We already saw two weeks ago a landmark test of what’s coming on the next mid term elections.
With this bill signed, federal agencies are resuming operations. Hundreds of thousands of furloughed workers will return to work and receive back pay, and services such as food stamps (SNAP) are being restored immediately.
Unfortunately, agencies projected to get paid by Nov. 19, that includes the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, Homeland Security, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Labor, and Treasury, as well as the Small Business Administration.
With that said my fellow friends. I encourage all to the following;
1. When you get paid, PAY YOUR BILLS! and do t get your bills set back for later be smart on that.
2. Have 1 or 2 emergency bank accounts set and appropriately alocate funds to these account directly from your EPP and do not count on this money unless you alocate one of these accounts for vacation purposes. Consider to deposit at a minimum of $100 X 26 pay-periods are $2,600 at a year. You should definitely consider this more seriously for any given emergency that includes shutdowns folks because this isn’t going to be your last furlough.
3. If you living your life really tight to your salary, seek opportunities to work Overtime or Shift trades. I recommend you First, to work 8-12 hours per pay period should be placing you in a better financial position and Second, try not to give your schedule time on shift trades. That will put you on an unnecessary financial disadvantage.
4. We all learned that as we work for TSA, we need to plan and work out our financial future.
Thanks to all to let me borrow a few minute of your time.
