🚴 Merit Badge Spotlight: Cycling

Whether it's riding through your neighborhood, exploring local trails, or tackling a 50-mile adventure, the **Cycling Merit Badge** helps Scouts develop skills they'll use for a lifetime. As one of the Eagle-required merit badge options (along with Hiking and Swimming), Cycling combines fitness, outdoor adventure, and practical safety skills.

Scouts working on this badge will:

🚴 Learn safe riding techniques, traffic laws, and the principles of defensive cycling.

🪖 Understand the importance of proper bicycle fit, helmets, clothing, and safety equipment.

🔧 Perform bicycle maintenance, including adjusting brakes and gears, lubricating components, and repairing a flat tire.

🚑 Learn first aid for common cycling-related injuries and how to recognize and respond to environmental hazards.

🛣️ Build confidence riding on roads or trails while practicing safe handling skills and trail etiquette.

🌄 Complete progressively longer rides, culminating in either a **50-mile road ride** or a **22-mile trail or mixed-surface ride**.
