Guided by Nature was more than an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange. It was a shared learning journey where young people from different European countries explored how nature can support wellbeing, cooperation, creativity and a more sustainable lifestyle.

The project brought together participants from Italy, Greece, Turkey, Lithuania and Poland, creating an international space for non-formal education, intercultural learning and peer learning. From the first activities, the group slowly built trust, openness and a sense of community through team-building games, reflection exercises, shared responsibilities and conversations.

One of the central experiences was the educational hike to Polica and Schronisko on Hala Krupowa. Participants prepared for it in responsibility teams, taking care of navigation, food, snacks, safety, equipment and group connection. The hike became much more than a physical challenge. It was a space to practise teamwork, decision-making, mutual support, digital-life balance and direct learning from nature.

During the exchange, participants also took part in outdoor upcycling workshops, exploring how simple materials and creative thinking can be used to make useful outdoor tools and educational resources. These workshops helped the group reflect on sustainability in a very practical way — not only by talking about responsible choices, but by creating, testing and learning through hands-on experience.

Peer learning played an important role throughout the whole project. Participants shared their skills, ideas, cultural perspectives and personal experiences with each other. In this way, everyone became both a learner and a contributor to the group process.

Guided by Nature reminded us that learning does not happen only in classrooms. Sometimes it happens on a forest path, during a shared challenge, while creating something from reused materials, or in a simple conversation with someone from another country.

Step by step, nature guided us towards stronger connections, greater awareness and a deeper understanding of how young people can care for themselves, each other and the environment.

The first days of the youth exchange “Guided by Nature” were dedicated to getting to know each other, building trust within the group and creating a safe space for learning together.

Participants took part in introductory activities, name games, team-building challenges and reflection exercises that helped them feel more comfortable in the international group. These first moments were important for strengthening communication, openness and cooperation before moving into deeper project topics.

The group also explored the aims of the project and reflected on the role of nature in everyday life, wellbeing, social relationships and sustainable choices. Through non-formal education methods, participants started to discuss how time spent outdoors can support digital-life balance, stronger communities and a more conscious lifestyle.

An important part of the first days was also preparation for the upcoming educational hike to Polica and Schronisko on Hala Krupowa. Participants discussed practical aspects, group responsibility, safety, equipment, food, snacks and teamwork. They were divided into responsibility teams, which helped them take an active role in preparing the experience together.

These introductory days created a strong foundation for the rest of the project. They helped participants move from being individuals from different countries into one learning community ready to cooperate, reflect and discover how nature can guide us towards better wellbeing and a more sustainable future.

Educational Hike to Polica and Hala Krupowa

During the youth exchange “Guided by Nature”, participants took part in an educational hike to Polica and Schronisko on Hala Krupowa - one of the central outdoor learning experiences of the project.

Before the hike, participants were divided into responsibility teams: the navigation team, food team, Know-Your-Team team, snack team, equipment team and safety team. Each group had a specific role in preparing and supporting the hike, which made cooperation, communication and shared responsibility an important part of the whole experience.

The hike created a space for direct contact with nature, teamwork and reflection. Step by step, participants experienced how nature supported wellbeing, cooperation and digital-life balance.

Along the way, the group observed the natural environment, supported one another, made decisions together and reflected on the meaning of environmental responsibility. The hike was not only about reaching a destination, but about learning through the journey itself.

For many participants, it was also a chance to slow down, spend time away from screens, build trust within the group and experience communication in a more direct and meaningful way.

Outdoor education reminded us that learning did not only happen in classrooms. Sometimes the path, the forest, the mountain and the people walking beside us became the method.

Preparing for the Educational Hike

As part of the youth exchange “Guided by Nature”, participants prepared for one of the key learning experiences of the project - the educational hike to Polica and Schronisko on Hala Krupowa.

The preparation was not only about checking the route, packing backpacks or discussing safety rules. It was also an important part of the learning process.

Participants explored how to take responsibility for themselves and the group, how to prepare for being in nature, how to reduce unnecessary waste during outdoor activities and how to approach the hike with openness, respect and curiosity.

Together, we discussed what we needed to feel safe outdoors, how to behave responsibly in natural areas, how to support each other as a team, how time in nature could help us disconnect from digital noise, and how direct contact with the environment could strengthen ecological awareness.

The hike was planned as more than a physical challenge. It became a space for cooperation, observation, reflection and learning from nature.

The beginning of an international experience is not always about big moments. Sometimes it starts with something much simpler: taking the first steps towards each other.

That is how Guided by Nature began in Dobczyce, Poland — an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange bringing together young people from different European countries, with Hermes Academy as the partner organisation from Italy, Think Twice from Greece, CEKDEV International Education and development academy from Turkey, EDUPLIUS from Lithuania and Fundacja Active Kids from Poland.

On the first day, we focused on connection. Through name-and-gesture games, a walking card activity, team challenges and shared conversations, strangers slowly began to turn into a group.

There were first smiles, first laughs, a little shyness, a lot of curiosity, and the feeling that something meaningful was beginning.

Maybe this is one of the first lessons nature gives us: relationships, just like forest paths, are built step by step. 🌿

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHfwmAYlVYE

This performance is the result of days filled with storytelling, theatre, sewing, creativity, and intercultural exchange. Together, participants transformed stories, ideas, and reflections into a shared artistic creation that speaks about inclusion, respect, cooperation, and understanding.

It is more than a performance - it is the outcome of a collective journey, where different cultures, voices, and experiences came together on one stage

We are proud to share this final result with you.
