Warsaw Security Forum at the Munich Security Conference 2026

As a partner of the Munich Security Conference, the Warsaw Security Forum took part in amid growing strain on the international order. Held under the theme Under Destruction, the Conference underscored the erosion of the post-Cold War security architecture and Europe’s responsibility for Ukraine’s security as inseparable from its own. In this context, WSF contributed to the Conference’s core debates by convening the Main Stage panel “Holding the Line: Defending Europe and Supporting Ukraine”, moderated by Katarzyna Pisarska, Chair of the Warsaw Security Forum.

The panel brought together senior European and transatlantic leaders:
- Gitanas Nausėda, President of the Republic of Lithuania
- Boris Pistorius, Federal Minister of Defence of Germany
- Radosław Sikorski, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland
- Taras Kachka, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine
- Elissa Slotkin, U.S. Senator and Member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services

The exchange focused on reinforcing NATO’s deterrence on the eastern flank, accelerating Europe’s defence readiness, and placing Ukraine at the centre of European security, as only credible deterrence and sustained pressure can enable meaningful peace negotiations.

For the fourth consecutive year, the Warsaw Security Forum also convened a high-level, closed-door dinner on the margins of the Munich Security Conference. Held as an official side-event under the title “No Time to Lose: Mapping Europe’s Chances to Win the War Before the War”, the dinner provided a trusted, off-the-record setting for candid strategic reflection on Europe’s security choices and the future of the transatlantic alliance.

The dinner gathered over 30 senior political and security leaders, including:
- Petr Pavel, President of the Czech Republic
- Mette Frederiksen, Prime Minister of Denmark
- Kaja Kallas, Vice-President and High Representative of the European Commission
- Andrius Kubilius, Commissioner for Defence and Space
- Tore O. Sandvik, Minister of Defence of Norway
- Roger Wicker, U.S. Senator, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Services
- Christopher Murphy, U.S. Senator, Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee

Key takeaways from the dinner:

- Credible deterrence - not fragile ceasefires - is essential to prevent a wider war
- Europe must assume greater military, industrial, and political responsibility
- Ukraine’s defence remains the frontline of European security
- Economic and strategic pressure on Russia must be intensified and sustained
- Strategic coherence and faster decision-making in the EU and NATO are critical
- Consensus exists - the challenge is ex*****on

At , WSF’s engagements reflected a clear message: Europe’s security will depend on its ability to act decisively, translate unity into power, and sustain long-term commitment to Ukraine.

🎤 Panel at the Munich Security Conference

Europe’s security environment is being reshaped by Russia’s war against Ukraine, the intensification of hybrid warfare, and the growing strain on NATO’s deterrence posture along its eastern flank. At the same time, Europe faces urgent questions about its defence readiness, industrial capacity, and ability to assume greater responsibility for its own security.

Join us at the for a panel moderated by Katarzyna Pisarska, Chair of the Warsaw Security Forum, on how NATO can strengthen deterrence against Russia on its eastern flank and the role Ukraine plays in this posture.

The discussion will focus on Europe’s defence readiness and production, responses to Russia’s hybrid attacks, and how European states can simultaneously support Ukraine’s defence while strengthening their own security posture on the eastern flank and in the Arctic.

We are pleased to announce the distinguished speakers of the panel:
▪️ Gitanas Nausėda - President of the Republic of Lithuania
▪️ Boris Pistorius - Federal Minister of Defence of Germany; Member of the Advisory Council, Munich Security Conference

🔹 Inspiring the Next Generation of Women in Security 🔹

We are pleased to share a reflection on an important milestone for our community. On January 13, we had the honor of inaugurating the fourth edition of the “Young Leaders in Security” - mentoring program, coordinated by Women in International Security Poland.

During the event, we had the pleasure of hosting Undersecretary of State Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka, who shared her professional journey in the security sector in a conversation with Katarzyna Pisarska, Chairwoman of the Foundation Council.
🎤 It was truly inspiring to hear such insightful and motivating reflections.

The “Young Leaders in Security” mentoring program aims to educate future leaders in international security and defense, strengthen their competencies, and build a strong community of women interested in security-related issues. Participants receive 10 months of mentorship support from experienced experts in the field.
The program will officially conclude during this year’s edition of the Warsaw Security Forum.
