🎬 In this GCLS round, one video is not enough

The video campaign is a new requirement in the 9th round – but it’s best to think of it not as “a video”, but as a story about change in your community.

What works best?
✔ a series of short videos instead of just one
✔ real stories of people and local initiatives
✔ showing not only the problem, but also the solution

💡 Think of it this way:
not “we will create a video about SDGs”
→ but “we will show how SDGs work in practice in our community”

The coherence and purpose of your campaign will play an important role in the evaluation.

⏳ The call is open until April 30

Good luck!

How do we talk about sustainable development with young people in an engaging way?

Within the 8th round of the GCLS programme, Viduslatgales pārnovadu fonds created an educational card game dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The game was originally developed in Latvian — and we’re happy to share that the Academy translated it into English, making it accessible to a wider, international audience 🌱

The cards encourage discussion, critical thinking and reflection on global challenges, while giving educators plenty of freedom to adapt the game to different subjects and age groups.

Feel free to use it, share it and get inspired!

From the Heart of : in Action

Can sports be a tool for education, inclusion, and supporting local projects? Absolutely. A great example comes from Făgăraș, Romania – the Bikeathon organized by the Country Community Foundation.

What makes this event unique?

Scale and Impact – Over 11 years, the event has raised more than 1 million RON for 121 local projects.

Inclusive Participation – From toddlers in the “Frog Race,” to adults on MTB routes, to people in wheelchairs on the special “Drumul Șonei” course.

Engaging Companies and the Community – 50% of corporate registration fees go directly to the causes they choose.

Connecting Local Action to Global Goals – The event addresses local needs while promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For us Global Challenges Local Solutions, this is a clear example of how sports, fundraising, and community action can work together effectively.

The Bikeathon presentation is available for download and offers plenty of inspiration for anyone looking to create a similar impact in their community. 🔗 Link in the comments.

🌍 8th Round of GCLS: Locally for Global Goals – Empowering Communities through SDGs and Volunteering (Poland)

As the world celebrates from September 19–26, we want to highlight one of the inspiring projects from the 8th edition of GCLS, implemented by the Clementin Foundation (Fundacja Klementyna), which shows how local actions can drive global change.

Key activities included:

Employee volunteering campaigns, such as “Wolontariat z Klementyną”, promoted via social media and local business partnerships.

Workshops for local authorities, school leaders, and teachers to introduce the SDGs and explore their implementation in local policies and education.

The “Friendly Local Business” campaign, engaging companies in SDG-driven social initiatives.

The project reached approximately 40,000 people across five districts, creating practical opportunities for engagement and fostering collaboration among local businesses, authorities, and schools.

It addresses key SDGs including No Poverty (SDG 1), Zero Hunger (SDG 2), Quality Education (SDG 4), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).

💡 By connecting local volunteering and SDG initiatives, this project is a perfect example of how small actions contribute to global goals.
