While the Indian community in Poland is growing and thriving, there are still moments when people face hate or discrimination.

Today we attended a meeting on combating hate crimes (crimes motivated by prejudice) at the Ministry of Justice (Ministerstwo Sprawiedliwości) in Warsaw, where we had the opportunity to meet Minister of Justice Waldemar Żurek

The event brought together several major NGOs across Poland working in this area, along with members of different expat communities.

Key points from the meeting:
• The government is introducing a new system with specialized prosecutors dedicated to handling hate crime cases
• A strong focus was placed on improving reporting, as many incidents still go unreported
• The Minister acknowledged gaps in the current system, including delays, inconsistencies, and lack of awareness
• NGOs and communities were recognized as critical partners in supporting victims and improving the system
• Plans for training, better coordination, and possibly multilingual support were discussed

One important takeaway is that many people, especially from migrant communities, do not report incidents due to lack of awareness, language barriers, or uncertainty about the process.

If you experience any hate-related incident or discrimination, it is important to report it. This helps improve the system and ensures such cases are taken seriously.

You can always share any incident with us through our reporting form: https://racism.indiancommunityofpoland.org/

We will continue to work closely with institutions and NGOs to support our community and raise awareness.

Dear All,

This post is to raise awareness within the Indian community in Poland—not to create fear or assign blame.

Recently, many families (especially in Kraków) have started receiving notices regarding joint tax filing. What seemed like isolated cases has now grown significantly, affecting even those who followed proper guidance from tax consultants.

What’s happening:

- ✔️ Indian marriage certificates are accepted
- ❗ The issue is with marital property recognition (wspólność majątkowa)
- 📌 Polish law assumes joint property after marriage, while Indian law does not—creating a legal mismatch

Impact:

- Rejection of joint filings
- Possible reassessment of past years
- Risk of additional taxes or penalties

This is not due to anyone’s mistake. Over 50 tax consultants and legal experts have been consulted, and the matter is already escalated to the embassy—but a clear solution is still evolving.

If it hasn’t affected you yet, it may in the future. Please don’t judge—stay informed and support each other.

If you’re impacted, consider connecting with others to stay updated.

🇸🇪🇵🇱 | The white-reds fell short of beating Sweden in the decisive qualifying play-off final for the second time in the row. Having won to clinch their spot at the 2022 tournament in Qatar, they loose this year's bout in Stockholm, 3-2 to the hosts.

It was an exciting, hard fought match over the course of which the Poles seemed to emerge as the most dominant side.

However they can rue a crucial defensive error as well as a few controversial decisions, that saw the contest slip out of their hands with the Arsenal sniper Victor Gyökeres scoring the winning goal in the last minutes of the base time.

Aa such, this will be the first World Cup since Brazil 2014 that Poland will miss out on.

📈💶⛽️ | Poland will introduce fuel price caps from Tuesday as the government moves to shield consumers from surging global oil costs.

The package of measures that will make it happen was fast-tracked by the parliament, with much opposition approval, and signed by the president om Friday.

The government said that the cap, meant to respond to rapidly rising fuel prices driven by the US-Israeli war with Iran, will be adjusted daily in order to ensure maximum real impact on the prices for the people.

"We have developed a mechanism to ensure that these reductions have a real impact on prices," PM Tusk had said, adding that fuel retailers would be required to pass on the savings to customers.
The measures are also intended to prevent excessive profits by fuel companies during a period of high oil prices, according to the prime minister.

Right now, the maximum price for regular 95-octane gasoline will be PLN 6.16 (EUR 1.55) per litre, while diesel fuel will be capped at PLN 7.60 (EUR 1.90), and higher-grade 98-octane gasoline will be limited to PLN 6.76 (EUR 1.70) per litre, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

[A serious request to the community]
Follow the rule of law (the country in which you live). Recently, three individuals from India were deported after authorities requested them several times to leave the country voluntarily. Do not attempt to exploit loopholes or rely on so-called agents or immigration lawyers to bypass the law. Such illegal activities bring shame to the entire community. Please avoid engaging in any illegal activities.
