Energy security and economic resilience of Central Europe in the post-Russian era require urgent coordination, a strategic vision, and pragmatic action. Last week a high-level strategic roundtable entitled "V4 energy roadmap: joint grid investments and regional resilience in the post-Russian era" took place.
The meeting brought together experts, diplomats, decision-makers, and leaders of key energy sectors to jointly address the transformation and infrastructure security challenges of our region.
During the intensive and multifaceted discussion, participants focused on analyzing key areas for the V4's energy future. The main topics included:
🔹 Geopolitical exposure of the V4 region and critical security: The impact of hybrid threats and attacks on transmission infrastructure, as well as the broader context of instability in the Middle East and its translation into commodity prices.
🔹 Gas infrastructure and regional diversification: New transmission realities following the cut-off of Russian supplies, cross-border bottlenecks, rising tariff burdens in landlocked countries, and the perception of gas infrastructure as a key pillar of energy security.
🔹 Power grids, electrification, and system flexibility: Challenges related to the growing role of renewable energy sources, surging power demand, the integration of national balancing markets, and investment needs.
🔹 Industrial competitiveness vs. EU climate policy: Cost pressures resulting from EU regulations, ETS allowance costs, the necessity to protect European and national supply chains, resilience, and investment priorities.
We extend our sincere thanks to all participants for an open and inspiring dialogue! We would also like to express our immense gratitude to our Partners: Aspen Institute Central Europe and THINKTANK Leaders Hub, and in particular to the International Visegrad Fund. It is thanks to its financial support that the realization of this project and the organization of such a prestigious high-level debate were possible. We invite you to visit www.visegradfund.org to learn more about the Fund's initiatives supporting integration and cooperation in our part of Europe!
