Preparing for crisis – what does it look like from the inside? 🤔

Although at PAH we response do crises every day, we know that effectiveness requires continuous learning of and maintaining competencies. That's why our team from the headquarters in Warsaw recently participated in crisis preparedness training.

During the training we:
🩺 reviewed the basics of first aid;
⛺ learned elements of survival – which also helps better understand the needs of migrants;
🫂 discussed how to take care of our mental health in a crisis;
📒 reminded ourselves of what to do to take care of ourselves and those around us in a crisis.

This kind of training is part of our work – such activities allow us to act quickly at key moments which in turn lets us support those in need.

We are pleased to announce that we have received a grant from the Center for Disaster Philanthropy, which will enable us to expand our efforts to support the integration of refugees through education and professional development!

Accounting and bookkeeping courses are currently underway, but training in caregiving for the elderly and people with disabilities will also begin soon. We also plan to launch technical and teaching courses tailored to the needs of the job market. All of this is being done in collaboration with the Fundacja Emic.

Thanks to these practical skills, participants have a better chance of finding work —and that is the key to independence and integration.

This is part of the “Innovative Approaches to Refugee Integration” IARI Project.

Co-funded by the European Commission and European Commission and Social Innovation + Initiative.

On behalf of the EU-funded Bio4HUMAN project, we cordially invite you to participate in the final event dedicated to bio-based solutions for waste management in the humanitarian sector.

📍 May 28, 2026 | Prague & online

After three years of research in South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we will present key project results, conclusions, and recommendations for the development of sustainable, circular solutions.

The event will be attended by representatives of the bioeconomy sector, humanitarian organizations, academia, and European and national institutions, creating a space for dialogue and future collaboration.

Everyone lines up when the truck arrives.

They're waiting because the tanker's hose can replenish the water supplies. Residents of a former school in Deir al-Balah that has been converted into a shelter list water as one of the three things they need most, right next to food and privacy.

Water is poured into special jerrycans, but when they are in short supply (or when the 25-liter tank is too heavy to lift), it can be carried in small bottles. Anything can be used to increase water supply for the day.

We partnered in this water provision project in the Gaza Strip with UNRWA.

Do you know what's inside this inconspicuous package?

They contain special tablets found in hygiene kits that we provide in South Sudan. One such tablet can purify 10 liters of water in just 20 minutes!

The ability to purify water is truly essential for people on the move: displaced from other parts of the country, recently arrived from Sudan, etc. When infrastructure is lacking, water often comes from dirty sources, and using it without prior purification would pose a significant health risk.

This project is funded by the EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid and our partner is GOAL.

It is a challenge to live in the south of Madagascar!

The biggest issues are lack of water and demanding climate, i.e. frequent cyclones and droughts in between.

We support farming efforts of local communities by helping them establish vegetable gardens. They provide food for the community but require work from its members – regular watering, weeding and harvesting. Everyone is involved for a positive outcome! 🥬🥔🍅

Our team has successfully completed a corporate training program at the KSD - Київська школа девелопменту!

During 10 sessions, specialists from technical, financial and logistics departments worked on the topic of managing capital repair and recovery projects. The program focused on practical aspects: project planning, budgeting, procurement, risk management, quality control and reporting.

However, the real value of corporate training lies not only in new knowledge. The greatest impact comes when different departments learn together.
This helps align approaches to project implementation, improves understanding between teams and accelerates decision-making.

For our team, this training became an important step in strengthening our expertise in implementing recovery projects and supporting communities.

Where does this door lead to?

To an incinerator for safe disposal of sanitary pads! We built it in Evergreen Primary and Secondary School in Balcad, Somalia, along with a double latrine and handwashing station. It was constructed especially for girls going to the school. Thanks to the private and safe use of toilets, a period will not be an obstacle to going to school anymore!

The incinerator-latrine combo not only improves students' wellbeing and security, but also solves the problem of waste.

The project is financed by the Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ).

Building latrines in areas at risk of flooding is a challenge!

But our team in South Sudan can do it! We just built new solid, heavy-duty toilets in Upper Nile, which is an especially vulnerable location – sometimes floodings occur even twice a year!

➡️ Thanks to the financial support of the European Union, we improve the resilience to climate change of communities in East Africa.

Waste is becoming a huge problem in humanitarian action. But we can do something about it!

That's the goal of Bio4Human initiative – a collaboration between organizations working in humanitarian sector and those specialized in bio-based solutions. Together we aim to solve the problem of ubiquitous solid waste.

Generators are important amid ongoing energy outages and severe winter conditions - but so is fuel! 🛢️

We continue to support the Points of Invincibility operating in emergency service tents and in school-based shelters in Kyiv, .

Recently, we visited three schools to distribute fuel cards for power generators. Depending on their needs and type of generators, each school received 1,000 litres of gasoline and/or 1,000 litres of diesel in the form of fuel cards. 💳 These supplies will ensure that generators can continue providing electricity, heating, and charging capacity during ongoing outages.

It is crucial especially in Desnianskyi district and parts of Holosiivskyi district, where heating and electricity remain regularly unavailable.

🔋 Generators powered by this fuel will keep essential community spaces functioning, allowing residents to warm up, charge devices, access hot drinks or meals, and remain safe during blackouts.

Yana Oleksandrivna, Head of School No. 320 told us: “We are extremely grateful for this assistance. Our kitchen prepares between 2,000 and 2,500 meals every day. Even right now, the electricity is off. But with this fuel, we can connect our generator and continue working without interruption."

In total, we will distribute 100,000 litres of diesel and 100,000 litres of petrol using these cards!
