We were offered another floor of the cuncil owned building to accommodate 30 more refugees. There is some maintenance to do before the Ukrainian families can move in. Watch the video with Jakub giving an update on what needs to be done.

We would like to send our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of a 9 year old, terminally ill Ukrainian girl that came to Bydgoszcz only a couple weeks ago. She passed away yesterday. May she rest in peace.

We want to thank the individuals who looked after the girl and her mom in the last days. Their empathy and dedication allowed mom and daughter to part in dignity and peace. It is beyond our abilities to express our admiration and respect to the strength of people who give a helping hand to those who suffer from such losses in such circumstances.

Thanks to everyone who supports the Ukrainian Refugee Hub financially, we are able to help with transport of the girl's body back to Ukraine so she can be buried in her homeland. The Polish government and other public institutions do not finance transporting deceased refugees back to their countries, it is down to private organisations to assist in such situations. Thank you for caring.

Saying ‘Good bye’ to our first family leaving to the UK! This was very emotional farewell... Ukrainian mother and daughter have been waiting for a long time to receive the visa but the day has come and yesterday they left the hotel to meet their hosting family. If you are interested in helping refugees by sponsoring their stay in the UK check this website 👉https://www.ukuatogether.com

During the flight Yulia and Sofia were accompanied by our UK based volunteer Natalia, who spent two busy weeks helping us in Poland. Natalia returned to London but she will continue to support refugees remotely.

Thank you Natalia for all your efforts. Good luck to Yulia, Sofia and the sponsoring family 💛💙

Would like to host a Ukrainian refugee during their stay in the UK? The UK Government has launched a ‘Homes for Ukraine’ Scheme which allows Ukrainian families to come into the UK on a six months visa and then stay up to three years.

Ukrainian Refugee Hub in collaboration with UKAUTogether have developed a website to accelerate Ukrainian refugees into the UK. The site allows both Ukrainian and potential sponsors to register and our team does the matches - thoughtfully, taking each family needs into consideration and with vetting process in mind. We have already matched over 100 people across the UK!

Wether you are interested in becoming a host or a refugee looking into moving to the UK, take your first step and register with UKAUTogether.

Easter in the Park Hotel in Tryszczyn for over 100 refugees.

Batioshka (an Orthodox Church Priest) joined many of the Ukrainian refugees in celebration of Orthodox Easter. In the morning he came to the Hotel to bless the food and participants and after the Easter breakfast events moved to Bydgoszcz Orthodox Church to attend an Easter service.

After the service the refugees enjoyed a sunny day in the main square of the city before we returned to the hotel. We hope we managed to bring some sense of normality amongst all of the distress.

Many thanks to Parafia Prawosławna św. Mikołaja Cudotwórcy w Bydgoszczy for being with us on this very important day.

Our support continues beyond the Refugee Hub. Families leaving Hub's hotel move to the homes often rented by us or with our support, and with the full fridges. We are doing our best to ensure nobody is hungry. All these thanks to the generous donations from our sponsors 💛💙

This week the Hub hosts very unusual guests: 4 Yorkshire terriers and their carer, Anfisa, who refused to leave her dogs behind and travelled all the way from Kharkiv to Tryszczyn with them (approx. 1700km).

It took her and her little friends a week to reach Poland and for all that time we were very worried about her. After all she was escaping trough territories occupied by Russians, and unfortunately we already experienced situations that Ukrainians that we were expecting to come, never made it to the border.

Once Anfisa reached a safer region, she had to stop in a town Svetlovodosk and wait a few days for the next evacuation bus. Her transport was organised by Polskie Centrum Pomocy Międzynarodowej (PCPM) charity - Polish Centre for International Aid.
Anfisa arrived to the Hub with her friends, who also brought a cat and a dog.
All animals were microchipped and received passports that will allow them to travel to UK once the quarantine in Poland ends (3 weeks).

Pictures show Anfisa’s evacuation from Kharkiv, stopover in a temporary shelter, Anfisa and her terries, Anfisa and the group she travelled with.

Photo session for passport/visa/ID application.
At the Hub we also help our guests with all the paperwork they need to fill in order to take next steps.
To start life in Poland refugees have to be registered in a national system giving them a unique identification number. Obtaining the ID number is a complex process. Once completed it gives an access the health and education systems or government financial support.
Mayors of two local councils helped us greatly and thanks to their efforts everyone living in the Hub has been already granted the ID number. Thank you for your support Gmina Sośno and Gmina Koronowo

Process of matching Ukrainian and British families. Translator helps during the meeting with potential hosts from the UK. To make sure both sides are comfortable with the match the Hub holds online meetings before we start the visa process. At the moment we have 20 visa applications in progress!
