We hope you’re returning from the summer break rested and recharged! As the new academic year begins, we wish our entire community an inspiring and successful return to academic life.

We’re also bringing back our series — starting with research by Jan Bińkowski and Tomasz K. Wojdacz, recently published in Genome Medicine.

Their study shows how DNA methylation biomarkers and machine learning can be used for pan-cancer classification. Based on nearly 17,000 epigenetic profiles, the model distinguishes 54 healthy and cancerous tissue types and classifies central nervous system (CNS) tumors, achieving balanced accuracies of 90% and 94%, respectively.

The research highlights the potential of epigenetic biomarkers, machine learning and predictive modeling in cancer diagnostics and precision medicine.

We were honored to celebrate a special milestone during the 5th anniversary edition of the annual CLEPIC Conference. On this occasion, the International Society for Molecular and Clinical Epigenetics (isMOCLEP) recognized Professor Susan J. Clark (Garvan Institute Of Medical Research) for her outstanding lifetime scientific achievements and her extraordinary contributions to the development of epigenetics as a scientific discipline.

This practical course combines expert lectures with laboratory training, guiding participants through the complete DNA methylation analysis workflow.

“A DNA methylation atlas of normal human cell types”

"This talk will discuss how DNA methylation contributes to genome regulation across human cell types, tissues and physiological states. I will present work on whole-genome methylation atlases, cell-type-specific regulatory elements, imprinting and allele-specific methylation, and variation associated with genetics, age and s*x. I will also describe how methylation signatures in circulating cell-free DNA can be used to infer tissue origins and study disease-related cell turnover."
