International Henryk Wieniawski Violin Competition is a hallmark of the town of Poznań and the region of Wielkopolska, as well as a most important event in Polish cultural life, one of truly global reach, particularly in the modern-day era of mass communication. Organised since 1935 and ranked among the oldest and most prestigious violin events in the world, the Wieniawski cultivates the memory of

Nurie Chung studiuje pod kierunkiem światowej sławy pedagoga, prof. Borisa Kuschnira w Wiedniu. Do marca 2023 roku kształcił się pod okiem śp. prof. NamYun Kim w Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts.

W 2021 roku, w wieku zaledwie 16 lat, zdobył II nagrodę na 56. Międzynarodowym Konkursie Skrzypcowym im. Niccolò Paganiniego (Premio Paganini Competition) w Genui, stając się jednym z najmłodszych laureatów w historii tego wydarzenia. Przyznano mu wówczas także dwie nagrody specjalne: za najlepsze wykonanie utworu zamówionego na konkurs oraz dla najmłodszego finalisty.

Jest laureatem licznych konkursów krajowych i międzynarodowych. Koncertował w wielu krajach Europy (głównie we Włoszech oraz w Koprze w Słowenii), a także w Dubaju z Armenian State Symphony Orchestra i na Malcie z Malta Philharmonic Orchestra. Współpracował również z maestro Sergeyem Smbatyanem przy projekcie nagraniowym dla wytwórni Naxos z muzyką Alexeya Shora. Występował podczas prestiżowych wydarzeń i koncertów galowych, m.in. na Korean Treasures Gala organizowanej przez Samsung Foundation of Culture w Waszyngtonie, podczas ceremonii Samsung HOAM Prize w Seulu oraz na festiwalu Premio Don Uva we włoskiej Apulii.

🇬🇧 | Introducing the Participant: Nurie Chung – 17th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition | Poznań, 8-25 October 2026

Nurie Chung is currently studying with world-renowned professor Boris Kuschnir in Vienna, having previously studied under the late NamYun Kim at the Korea National Institute for the Gifted in Arts until March 2023.

He was the second prize winner at age 16, at the 2021 56th Premio Paganini Competition in Genoa, Italy. He was also awarded two more special prizes, one for best performance for the commissioned piece and the other for the youngest finalist. He is one of the youngest prize winners in the history of the competition. He won many international and national competitions.

He performed a number of concerts in Europe, mainly in Italy, Koper (Slovenia), Dubai with Armenian State Symphony and Malta with the Malta Philharmonic. He also collaborated with Maestro Sergey Smbatyan for Naxos Alexey Shor recording project. For culture events such as ceremony concerts, he played for Korean Treasures Gala by Samsung Foundation of Culture in Washington D.C. & Samsung HOAM Prize Ceremony in Seoul and Premio don Uva in Puglia region in Italy.

Jooha Choi należy do najciekawszych skrzypaczek młodego pokolenia i szybko zdobywa uznanie na międzynarodowych estradach. Jest laureatką m.in. Nagrody Publiczności i II nagrody w 10. Munetsugu Angel International, II nagród w Hong Kong GNA oraz 31. KBS Symphony Orchestra Competition, I miejsca w 62. Dong-A i 35. Busan Competition, a także Nagrody Przewodniczącego Jury w Osaka International Competition.

Jako solistka występowała z licznymi profesjonalnymi orkiestrami, w tym z NEC Chamber Orchestra, Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, Hankyung Arte Philharmonic; Busan, Seongnam oraz Seocho Philharmonic Orchestra.

Kształciła się w Yewon School oraz Seoul Arts High School, gdzie w 2023 roku otrzymała Unpa Lim Won-sik Award i tytuł Musician of the Year. Studia licencjackie ukończyła na Seoul National University pod kierunkiem Ju-Young Baek, a obecnie kontynuuje naukę na studiach magisterskich w New England Conservatory w klasie Nicholasa Kitchena.

Jooha Choi is an emerging violinist, rapidly gaining international recognition with her top prizes from competitions including Audience Award and 2nd prize from the 10th Munetsugu Angel International, Hong Kong GNA, and the 31st Korean Broadcasting System Symphony Competitions, 1st from the 62nd Dong-A and the 35th Busan Competitions, as well as Chair of Jury prize from the Osaka International Competition.

Having the honor of winning top prizes from the competitions mentioned, she has appeared as soloist with numerous professional orchestras including NEC Chamber Orchestra, Central Aichi Symphony Orchestra, Hankyung Arte, Busan, Seongnam, and Seocho Philharmonic Orchestras.

Her educational background includes Yewon School and Seoul Arts High School, where she was honored with the Unpa Lim Won-sik Award and the Musicians of the Year Award in 2023, and Seoul National University for Bachelor of Music Degree under the tutelage of Ju-Young Baek. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the New England Conservatory under the tutelage of Nicholas Kitchen.

Do składu jurorskiego 17. edycji Konkursu Wieniawskiego w Poznaniu (8–25.10.2026) dołącza znakomity skrzypek Alexander Sitkovetsky!

Urodzony w Moskwie w rodzinie o bogatych tradycjach muzycznych, zadebiutował z orkiestrą w wieku zaledwie ośmiu lat i w tym samym roku rozpoczął naukę w Yehudi Menuhin School (gdzie obecnie posiada tytuł artysty stowarzyszonego). Jego mentorem przez lata był sam Lord Menuhin, z którym wielokrotnie występował na jednej scenie. Jest również absolwentem Royal Academy of Music w Londynie oraz niemieckiej Kronberg Academy.

Polskim melomanom jest doskonale znany – od sezonu 2023/2024 sprawuje funkcję Dyrektora Artystycznego Orkiestry Kameralnej NFM Leopoldinum we Wrocławiu.

Jako solista oraz dyrygent zachwyca publiczność na najważniejszych estradach świata – od London Philharmonic i Royal Philharmonic, przez Academy of St Martin in the Fields, aż po naszą rodzimą NOSPR.

🇬🇧 | Alexander Sitkovetsky – Jury Member of the 17th Henryk Wieniawski International Violin Competition

Renowned violinist Alexander Sitkovetsky joins the jury of the 17th Wieniawski Competition in Poznań (8–25 October 2026)!

Born in Moscow into a family with deep musical roots, Alexander Sitkovetsky made his concerto debut at the age of eight, and the same year moved to study at the Yehudi Menuhin School (where he is now an Associate Artist). Lord Menuhin was his inspiration throughout his school years, and they performed together on several occasions. An alumnus of the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Kronberg Academy, he has served as Artistic Director of the NFM Leopoldinum Orchestra in Wrocław since the 2023/24 season.

A captivating soloist and conductor, he performs regularly with world-class ensembles such as the London Philharmonic, Royal Philharmonic, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra (NOSPR).

An acclaimed chamber musician, his accolades include 1st prize at the Trio di Trieste Duo Competition, an ICMA Special Achievement Award, the Lincoln Center Emerging Artist Award, as well as being a founding member of the Sitkovetsky Trio (BBC Music Magazine Award) and member of the Julia Fischer String Quartet.

Alexander Sitkovetsky plays the 1679 ‘Parera’ Antonio Stradivari violin, generously on loan through the Beare’s International Violin Society.

Jiachen Cao kształci się na studiach licencjackich pod kierunkiem prof. Ulricha Edelmanna na Uniwersytecie Muzyki i Sztuk Scenicznych we Frankfurcie nad Menem (Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt am Main).

Jest laureatem I nagrody w Città di Barletta International Competition oraz Melbourne International Piano & Strings Festival Competition, a także dwukrotnym stypendystą German National Scholarship.

W 2025 roku dotarł do półfinału Sendai International Music Competition, wykonując Koncert skrzypcowy Dvořáka z Sendai Philharmonic oraz Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, a w 2026 roku został półfinalistą International Henri Marteau Violin Competition.

Krytyk Hiromi Masaki chwalił jego interpretację utworów Ysaÿe’a za „siłę eksplozywnych momentów wyłaniających się ze spokojnego nurtu”, a w dziełach Mozarta docenił to, że skrzypek „oddycha razem z orkiestrą” oraz tworzy „delikatny ansambl z głęboką uważnością”.

Jako asystent koncertmistrza Verbier Festival Orchestra w 2025 roku współpracował z Paavo Järvim, Klausem Mäkelą i Gautierem Capuçonem. Brał również udział w skrzypcowych kursach mistrzowskich oraz projekcie muzyki kameralnej Mit Musik – Miteinander w ramach Kronberg Academy, a także wystąpił podczas koncertu urodzinowego Christopha Eschenbacha.

Jiachen Cao is currently pursuing his Bachelor’s degree with Prof. Ulrich Edelmann at the Frankfurt University of Music and Performing Arts.

He is a First Prize winner of the Città di Barletta International Competition and the Melbourne International Piano & Strings Festival Competition and has been awarded the German National Scholarship for two consecutive years.

In 2025, he reached the semi-finals of the Sendai International Music Competition, performing Dvořák’s Violin Concerto with the Sendai Philharmonic and the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra. In 2026, he became a semi-finalist of the International Henri Marteau Violin Competition.

Critic Hiromi Masaki praised his Ysaÿe for "the power of explosive moments emerging from serene flow" and his Mozart for "breathing with the orchestra" and "creating a delicate ensemble with profound attentiveness."

As Assistant Concertmaster of the Verbier Festival Orchestra in 2025, he collaborated with Paavo Järvi, Klaus Mäkelä and Gautier Capuçon. He also participated in the Kronberg Academy’s violin masterclasses and chamber music project "Mit Musik – Miteinander" and performed at Christoph Eschenbach’s birthday concert.

Naukę gry na skrzypcach rozpoczęła jako sześciolatka. Cztery lata później zadebiutowała recitalem solowym, do którego zaproszenie było pokłosiem zdobycia Grand Prix w konkursie Strad Competition. Od tego czasu regularnie koncertuje jako solistka – m.in. w ramach cykli organizowanych pod patronatem Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation – oraz współpracuje z uznanymi zespołami orkiestrowymi.

Jest także członkinią Juvenis Quartet, zespołu założonego wraz z rówieśnikami z programu dla uzdolnionej młodzieży Korea National University of Arts (KNUA). Zespół ten wywalczył I miejsce na prestiżowym Jeju International Chamber Music Competition. Doświadczenie w prowadzeniu orkiestry oraz autorytet wykonawczy buduje również na stanowisku koncertmistrzyni KNUA Orchestra.

Talent i pasja do muzyki pozwoliły jej już w 2023 roku – w wieku zaledwie 15 lat – rozpocząć studia na KNUA w trybie przyspieszonym. W lipcu tego samego roku została najmłodszą finalistką kategorii seniorów konkursu Ysaÿe Competition, a w listopadzie 2024 roku podczas Isang Yun International Competition otrzymała nagrodę specjalną Sungyong Park Special Prize for Young Talent. W 2026 roku awansowała do półfinału Concours Musical International de Montréal (CMIM).

She began playing the violin at the age of 6. She made her debut recital at the age of 10 after winning the Grand Prix at the Strad Competition. Since then, she has continued to grow as a soloist, performing in recitals sponsored by the Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation and collaborating with prestigious orchestras. She is also a member of the Juvenis Quartet, formed with her peers from the KNUA gifted program, which won first place at the Jeju International Chamber Music Competition. As the concertmaster of the KNUA Orchestra, she is gaining valuable leadership and musical experience.

Her dedication and passion for music have led to numerous achievements, including early admission to the Korea National University of Arts (KNUA) in 2023 at the age of 15.

In July 2023, she became the youngest finalist in the senior category of the Ysaÿe International Music Competition. In November 2024, she competed in the Isang Yun International Competition and was awarded the Sungyong Park Special Prize for Young Talent. In 2026, she was selected as a semifinalist at the Concours Musical International de Montréal (CMIM).

Po ukończeniu Yewon School rozpoczęła naukę w Seoul Arts High School, do której została przyjęta z najlepszym wynikiem na roku. Zadebiutowała jako 14-latka w ramach cyklu Kumho Prodigy Concert, a niedługo potem – po pomyślnym przejściu przesłuchań – wystąpiła również w cyklu Kumho Young Artist Concert.

Doceniana za wyjątkową muzykalność, dawała recitale na zaproszenie licznych instytucji kultury, m.in. podczas Festiwalu Lipcowego The House Concert. Otrzymała stypendium specjalne przyznane przez SNU Gwanak Foundation (Gwanak-hoe) na Seoul National University. Już na pierwszym roku studiów licencjackich uzyskała najwyższą ocenę jury spośród wszystkich studentów sekcji instrumentów smyczkowych i jako najmłodsza wykonawczyni reprezentowała swój wydział na 88. Koncercie Debiutantów organizowanym przez Chosun Ilbo.

Oprócz zdobycia nagrody na 32. Konkursie Muzycznym KBS•KEPCO oraz innych prestiżowych wyróżnień krajowych, rozwinęła swoją karierę międzynarodową, zdobywając III nagrodę na Międzynarodowym Konkursie Muzycznym w Tokio (Tokyo Minato City International Music Competition).

After graduating from Yewon School, she entered Seoul Arts High School at the top of the entire incoming class. She made her debut at age 14 through the Kumho Prodigy Concert and later passed the Kumho Young Artist Concert audition for another performance. Recognized for her exceptional musicality, she has held recitals for various organizations, including The House Concert’s July Festival.

She was named a special scholarship recipient by the SNU Gwanak Foundation (Gwanak-hoe) at Seoul National University. As a freshman, she earned the highest jury marks among all undergraduate string students and represented the department as the youngest performer at the 88th Chosun Ilbo Debut Concert.

In addition to winning a prize at the 32nd KBS•KEPCO Music Competition and other prestigious domestic awards, she expanded her international career by winning third prize at the Tokyo Minato City International Music Competition.

Z radością witamy Nancy Zhou w składzie jurorskim 17. edycji Konkursu Wieniawskiego w Poznaniu (8–25.10.2026).

Znana z wnikliwego języka muzycznego i porywającej wirtuozerii, Nancy Zhou występowała z czołowymi orkiestrami świata, m.in. Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Munich Symphony czy Hong Kong Philharmonic.

Jako oddana kameralistka i solistka regularnie koncertuje na prestiżowych festiwalach, takich jak Verbier Festival, Brevard Music Festival, Tongyeong Music Festival oraz Marvão Festival.

W swoim dorobku ma zarówno występ u boku Anne-Sophie Mutter w Carnegie Hall, jak i szeroką działalność pedagogiczną na świecie.

Kształciła się pod kierunkiem Miriam Fried w New England Conservatory, studiując jednocześnie literaturę na Uniwersytecie Harvarda.

W czerwcu 2025 roku wydała znakomicie przyjęty debiutancki album STORIES (re)TRACED (Orchid Classics).

Nancy Zhou jest artystką stowarzyszoną Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel oraz prowadzi klasę skrzypiec w Tianjin Juilliard School.

We are thrilled to welcome Nancy Zhou to the jury of the 17th Wieniawski Competition in Poznań (8–25 October 2026).

Known for her probing musical voice and searing virtuosity, Nancy Zhou has performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, Munich Symphony, and Hong Kong Philharmonic.

A passionate chamber musician and soloist, she is a regular guest at renowned international festivals such as the Verbier Festival, Brevard Music Festival, Tongyeong Music Festival, and Marvão Festival.

Her rich collaborative work ranges from performing alongside Anne-Sophie Mutter at Carnegie Hall to active engagements as a guest educator around the globe.

She studied with Miriam Fried at the New England Conservatory while pursuing literature at Harvard University, and in June 2025 released her acclaimed debut album, STORIES (re)TRACED (Orchid Classics).

Nancy Zhou is an Associated Artist of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel and currently serves as Professor of Violin at the Tianjin Juilliard School.

Z przyjemnością przedstawiamy sylwetkę Sungsic Yanga, który zasiądzie w jury 17. edycji Konkursu Wieniawskiego w Poznaniu (8–25.10.2026).

Sungsic Yang należy do grona czołowych skrzypków swojego pokolenia. Jest zwycięzcą Międzynarodowego Konkursu Skrzypcowego im. Carla Flescha w Londynie (1988) oraz laureatem cenionych konkursów im. Long-Thibaud, Paganiniego, w Indianapolis i im. Rodolfo Lipizera.

Jako solista występował z wieloma renomowanymi orkiestrami, m.in. Orchestre National de France pod batutą Lorina Maazela, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra pod dyrekcją Yehudiego Menuhina, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Warszawską Orkiestrą Kameralną oraz Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo.

W swoim dorobku nagraniowym dla Sony Classical posiada koncerty skrzypcowe Brahmsa, Sibeliusa, Czajkowskiego i Mendelssohna.

Jest absolwentem Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, a studia kontynuował w Londynie i Stuttgarcie. Obecnie pełni funkcję dyrektora muzycznego Erato Ensemble oraz dziekana Seoul Central Music Academy.

We are pleased to present Sungsic Yang, who will join the jury of the 17th Wieniawski Competition in Poznań (8–25 October 2026).

Winner of the 1988 Carl Flesch International Violin Competition in London, Sungsic Yang has established himself as one of the leading violinists of his generation. He is also a laureate of the Long-Thibaud, Paganini, Indianapolis, and Rodolfo Lipizer international competitions.

As a soloist, Yang has performed with numerous prestigious orchestras, including the French National Orchestra under Lorin Maazel, the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Yehudi Menuhin, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Warsaw Chamber Orchestra, and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic. His discography for Sony Classical includes the violin concertos of Brahms, Sibelius, Tchaikovsky, and Mendelssohn.

A graduate of the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris who pursued further studies in London and Stuttgart, Yang is currently Music Director of the Erato Ensemble and Dean of the Seoul Central Music Academy.
