Myopia 2026 Conference: The first lecture in session I will be delivered by Dr. Andriy Kovalov Possible effect of Induced Spherical Aberrations (Z04) on Myopia Control by OrthoKeratology.
Dr. Andriy Kovalov is one of the first ophthalmologists to practice Orthokeratology in Ukraine (2005). He has over 15 years of experience in Myopia Control.

Pod koniec ubiegłego roku prof. Andrzej Grzybowski otrzymał Nagrodę Naukową Samorządu Województwa Wielkopolskiego za 2025 r za badania z wykorzystaniem Sztucznej Inteligencji w wykrywaniu retinopatii cukrzycowej.
Kapituła wyróżniła go spośród 23 zgłoszonych kandydatów.
Laudację wygłosił prof. Marcin Stopa, Prezes-Elekt Polskiego Towarzystwa Okulistycznego, Kierownik Katedry Chorób Oczu i Optometrii Uniwersytetu Medycznego w Poznaniu, który m.in powiedział: "Prof. Andrzej Grzybowski to jedna z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych marek/twarzy naukowych na świecie w tej dziedzinie. Jest wizjonerem, innowatorem wykorzystującym AI w leczeniu chorób oczu, liderem futurologii medycznej".

At the end of last year, Prof. Andrzej Grzybowski received the 2025 Scientific Award of the Wielkopolska Regional Government for his research on the use of Artificial Intelligence in the detection of diabetic retinopathy.
The Award Committee distinguished him from among 23 nominated candidates.
The laudation was delivered by Prof. Marcin Stopa, President-Elect of the Polish Ophthalmological Society and Head of the Department of Ophthalmology and Optometry at Poznan University of Medical Sciences, who said, among other things:
“Prof. Andrzej Grzybowski is one of the most recognizable scientific names/faces in the world in this field. He is a visionary, an innovator using AI in the treatment of eye diseases, and a leader in medical futurology.”

Professor Serge Resnikoff MD, PhD is the Chair of the International Myopia Institute and a global expert in public health and ophthalmology. He has held leadership roles at the World Health Organization and has been instrumental in developing strategies to combat avoidable blindness and visual impairment worldwide. As an ophthalmologist with a background in epidemiology and public health, Professor Resnikoff is committed to advancing equitable access to eye care and fostering international collaboration in vision research.

New research helps clarify how we communicate the long‑term risks of myopia.

A recent study published in Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science provides much‑needed absolute risk estimates of visual impairment from myopia‑related diseases, including myopic macular degeneration (MMD), primary open‑angle glaucoma (POAG), and rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD). The study also provides images of icon arrays for patients, which can be used as a communication tool in clinical practice.

While relative risks are often highlighted in the literature, they can overstate risk without context.
Absolute risks of developing visual impairment from myopia-related diseases in adults over 40 years are reported to be:
White populations:
o No myopia: 0.39 in 100
o Low myopia: 1.39 in 100
o High myopia: 6.78 in 100
East Asian populations:
o No myopia: 0.53 in 100
o Low myopia: 2.45 in 100
o High myopia: 10.34 in 100

These figures highlight an important message for clinical practice: Risk communication should include both the likelihood of developing visual impairment and the likelihood of not developing it, helping families make informed decisions about myopia management.

A valuable contribution to improving how we discuss long‑term risks of myopia with parents and caregivers.

Trwa program badań w kierunku retinopatii cukrzycowej!

Za nami kolejne działania w ramach realizowanego programu profilaktycznego. Tym razem badania odbyły się w Stęszewie – w Urzędzie Gminy oraz na hali widowiskowej.

W badaniach przesiewowych wziął udział również Burmistrz Stęszewa, wspierając inicjatywę i zachęcając mieszkańców do regularnej kontroli wzroku.

Retinopatia cukrzycowa przez długi czas może nie dawać objawów, dlatego tak ważne jest wczesne wykrycie zmian. Badanie jest szybkie, bezbolesne, i może uchronić przed poważnym pogorszeniem widzenia.

Dziękujemy wszystkim uczestnikom za zaufanie i zapraszamy kolejne osoby do udziału w programie 💙

Can past myopia progression help us predict how a child will progress in the future?
A new open access study from the Pediatric Eye Disease Investigator Group (PEDIG) provides a clear answer: no.
Analyzing 136 children over 24 months, the authors found that progression in the first year was a poor predictor of progression in the second year. For example, children who progressed ≥0.50 D in year one had only a 42% chance of similar progression in year two. Prior progression explained just 3–6% of future variability in statistical models.

Why this matters:
Relying solely on past progression to guide treatment decisions or to select “fast progressors” for clinical trials may be misleading. A broader assessment—including age, baseline refractive error, axial length, parental myopia, and environmental factors—remains essential.
