Reflecting on “Chain Reaction: from Chornobyl’s Silence to Tomorrow’s Voice" workshop 👇🏼👇🏼👇🏼
On April 26, we gathered at the in Poznań to mark Chornobyl Remembrance Day—not just as a date in a history book, but as a living lesson for our shared present and future.
While history often focuses on technical failures, our workshop, focused on the human pulse beneath the data.
✅What we did & What we learned:
The 3-Minute Suitcase Simulation:
Participants stepped into the shoes of those forced to evacuate in 1986. With only 3 minutes to pack for a "3-day trip" that would last a lifetime, we faced the impossible choice: What defines your identity when you can only carry one bag?
Deconstructing the "Invisible Enemy":
We analyzed the psychological weight of displacement. We learned that the "invisible baggage" of radiation in 1986 mirrors the "invisible baggage" of war and political exile carried by many Ukrainians and Belarusians today.
The Echo of 2026:
We engaged in a critical dialogue about the modern reality of nuclear terrorism. By connecting the secrecy of 1986 to the current threats surrounding occupied power plants like ZAES, we realized that nuclear security is not a memory of the past—it is a global challenge for our immediate future.
🔍Why it mattered:
In the context of the ongoing war and the migration crisis caused by oppressive regimes, this workshop proved that the lessons of Chornobyl are more relevant than ever. It was a space for Ukrainians, Poles, and our international community to bridge the gap between "their story" and "our reality."
We learned that while totalitarian systems rely on silence and fear, our strongest shield is empathy, truth, and community.
