Regional unity in Southern Africa is being tested not only by internal development priorities, but also by the wider pressure of global geopolitical instability.
In his latest article for Civil Society News Network, Ngoni Samuel Mamvura, Investigative Journalist & Contributor for CSNN — Southern Africa Desk, examines the outcome of the SADC Foreign Ministers’ retreat in Skukuza, Kruger National Park, and the broader question facing the Southern African Development Community: whether regional declarations can now be translated into measurable implementation.
The Skukuza Outcome Statement reaffirmed solidarity, resilience and commitment to Vision 2050. Yet the region continues to face serious pressure from disrupted trade routes, energy insecurity, climate shocks, food security concerns, debt vulnerabilities and uneven progress in industrialisation.
For CSNN, this issue is not only a matter of regional diplomacy. It is a question of institutional credibility, public-interest governance and the capacity of regional organisations to protect societies in an increasingly unstable international environment.
Southern Africa’s strength lies in collective action. Its strategic test now lies in delivery.
