More than two decades ago, teenagers from the small Fort Scott in Kansas, USA, together with their teacher, staged a performance about Irena Sendler. The story of Sendler and other Rescuers was the inspiration for the foundation, in the same Fort Scott, of the Lowell Milken Center – an educational center, caring for the memory of the Unsung Heroes. When the war broke out in Ukraine, the foundation's team mobilized the local community, schools and private individuals to write letters to Ukrainian children who had found refuge in Poland. The response was immediate - children, teenagers and adults wrote hundreds of letters that have reached me today - carefully packed, divided into age groups, some translated into Ukrainian. I'm starting to deliver these support letters to the right hands!
