At the age of 86, Archbishop Józef Kowalczyk has passed to the House of the Father – Apostolic Nuncio to Poland during the years of great change, Archbishop of Gniezno and Primate of Poland.
He was a close collaborator of St. John Paul II, a man of dialogue and service. Through his efforts, the Military Ordinariate of Poland was reestablished, and the Concordat between the Holy See and the Republic of Poland was negotiated and signed.
His life was marked by faithfulness to the Church and the Homeland. Today we remember him with gratitude and prayer, paying tribute to his ministry, which has become part of the history of modern Poland.

W wieku 86 lat odszedł do Domu Ojca arcybiskup Józef Kowalczyk - nuncjusz apostolski w Polsce w latach przełomu, arcybiskup gnieźnieński i Prymas Polski.
Był bliskim współpracownikiem św. Jana Pawła II, człowiekiem dialogu i służby. To dzięki jego staraniom przywrócono Ordynariat Polowy Wojska Polskiego, a także wynegocjowano i podpisano Konkordat między Stolicą Apostolską a Rzeczpospolitą Polską.
Jego życie naznaczone było wiernością Kościołowi i Ojczyźnie. Dziś wspominamy go z wdzięcznością i modlitwą, oddając hołd jego posłudze, która wpisała się w historię współczesnej Polski.
