Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II for his services to literature, Sir Salman Rushdie has spent decades writing about how stories, media, and images shape our understanding of truth and freedom — perfectly reflecting this year’s theme of the event.

A literary giant, fearless intellectual, and one of the world’s foremost defenders of free speech and human rights, he is the author of internationally acclaimed works including Midnight’s Children — awarded both the Booker Prize and the Best of the Booker Prize (with a Netflix adaptation coming soon) — as well as The Ground Beneath Her Feet and The Enchantress of Florence.

His latest book, The Eleventh Hour, is a collection of stories about life, death, and what becomes clear in the metaphorical “eleventh hour” of human life. His previous book, Knife — a powerful and deeply personal account of survival and recovery after the attempt on his life — became an international bestseller and was included on The New York Times list of the 100 most notable books of the year.
