Supported by Better Cotton, Sami Foundation conducted a series of practical training sessions and field demonstrations to promote sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices in District Umerkot, Sindh. These sessions focused on deep tillage techniques to break hard soil layers and improve water absorption and root growth, along with the identification and rehabilitation of degraded soils to restore fertility and productivity. Farmers were guided on the effective use of farmyard manure (FYM) as a natural way to enrich soil nutrients and enhance moisture retention. In addition, awareness was raised on High Conservation Value (HCV) areas to ensure the protection of biodiversity and essential community resources. Through these efforts, the initiative is contributing to safer farming practices and strengthening environmentally responsible cotton production systems.

Under the project “Building Lives of Cotton Growing Communities in District Umerkot, Sindh, Pakistan”, supported by Better Cotton, Sami Foundation successfully organized practical training sessions and field demonstrations for local cotton farmers.
Farmers were trained on key sustainable practices including Deep Tillage to improve root pe*******on and water absorption, Degraded Soil Identification & Rehabilitation to restore soil fertility, proper Application of Farm Yard Manure (FYM) for natural nutrient enrichment and better moisture retention, and the importance of protecting High Conservation Value (HCV) areas to safeguard biodiversity and vital community resources.
