Hi, I am Asad Memon, Deputy Secretary Pakistan United Workers Federation and a postgraduate in International Relations and a dedicated workers’ rights promoter with over 10 years of experience. I am deeply passionate about advocating for labor rights and promoting awareness among workers both in Pakistan and abroad. I have a strong interest in understanding and supporting the role of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), and I aspire to contribute as a volunteer. I also wish to propose meaningful improvements within OPF to better serve Pakistanis traveling abroad—whether for employment, visits, or conferences. In my view, every Pakistani traveling overseas should be encouraged to register with OPF as a reliable and protective mechanism, similar to insurance. Unfortunately, many so-called insurance providers exist only to fulfill visa requirements and often fail to offer real support when needed. In contrast, OPF is a credible, government-backed, and trustworthy institution that can provide genuine assistance and protection to overseas Pakistanis. I am committed to delivering accurate, impactful, and accessible information to a wide audience. I strongly believe that awareness is the key to empowerment, and my work consistently reflects this principle. Through my involvement in the labor movement, I aim to inspire millions of workers to take proactive steps toward understanding their rights, making informed decisions, and ensuring safe and lawful travel through the proper channels. My goal is to contribute to a more informed, secure, and empowered community of Pakistani workers worldwide.

Today at Karachi Club, we attended the farewell ceremony held in honor of Syed Athar Ali Shah, Regional Director Labour Karachi.
His dedication, professionalism, and valuable services for the protection of labour rights and the promotion of positive industrial relations will always be remembered and appreciated. Throughout his tenure, he worked with commitment and sincerity for the welfare of workers and the improvement of the labour sector.
PUWF extend its heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Athar Ali Shah shb for his remarkable contributions in labour department and wish him good health, continued success, and a happy, prosperous future.

*SUKKUR* (*SAFWU Sindh*): *Child Fatalities After Drinking Water from a Pesticide Bottle*
The Sindh Agriculture and Fishing Workers Union (SAFWU) has taken serious notice of a tragic incident in which five children, including three brothers, lost their lives after consuming contaminated water in Menho Khan Chhijjan village, located in Mirpur Mathelo, District Ghotki.
A SAFWU Sindh representative in Sukkur reported that the children had unknowingly drunk water from an empty bottle previously used for storing poisonous insecticide. Soon after consumption, their health rapidly deteriorated. Two children died on their way to Sukkur Hospital two days ago, one child passed away the following day, and the remaining two children died on Thursday.
The deceased children, aged between 7 and 9 years, were identified as Ayaz, his brother Allauddin, Muhammad Khan, Waqar, and Waseem Chhijjan. All of them belonged to the same village and were closely related.
According to family members, the children were playing in an open field where they poured water into an empty pesticide bottle that had earlier been used to kill insects. After drinking the water from the contaminated bottle, their condition worsened.
SAFWU Sindh has previously undertaken awareness and training initiatives on Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) during the years 2015–2017 under the ILO GE4DE project. These programs focused on educating agricultural workers about the safe handling, use, and disposal of hazardous pesticides and empty bottles, and included the distribution of protective “Hari kits” for Agricultural workers.
However, there remains an urgent need to expand awareness among agricultural workers and local communities so that they can better protect themselves from hazardous chemicals and prevent such tragic incidents in the future. Every human life is invaluable and must be safeguarded above all else.

I'm deeply concerned about the current labour/human rights situation in Pakistan. As a citizen, I'm worried about the well-being of our people and the state of our country.

Enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, no social security, no FOA and suppression of free speech are all serious issues that need attention. Let's work together to create a society where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

I'm not intimidated by those who try to silence us. I'm committed to speaking up for what's right, and I hope you'll join us.
