Amina Masood Janjua, Chairperson, Defence of Human Rights expresses concern over the recent violence in Pakistan-administered Jammu & Kashmir, which has resulted in casualties during protests related to governance issues and economic grievances.
She strongly opposes the decision to declare the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) a proscribed organisation and calls for the immediate withdrawal of the order. Using restrictive measures against citizens will only deepen tensions and hinder democratic engagement.
Amina Masood also raises concerns over reports of excessive force, arbitrary arrests, and restrictions on fundamental rights, including freedom of expression and peaceful assembly. It urges the authorities to address public grievances through meaningful dialogue and respect for human rights.
Amina Masood stands in solidarity with the victims and their families and reiterates that lasting peace can only be achieved through justice, democratic participation, and constructive dialogue.
