The tragic incident of acid attack on Lady Doctor Mahnoor Nasir at Civil Hospital Quetta is yet another blot on the ongoing oppression and violence against women in Balochistan which is disfiguring the province’s dignified history day by day.

The immediate response by young Raziq Tarkai who was present at the scene, The Chief Minister Balochistan, the Provincial Health Department and Balochistan Police in saving Dr. Mahnoor Nasir’s precious life is highly commendable

In its issued statement, Todays Women Organization TWO said that attacking a dutiful female doctor on duty is an inhumane cowardly act and open terrorism. We express our deep sorrow and grief over this brutality and pray for Dr. Mahnoor Nasir’s earliest recovery. The tragic incident of the acid attack on Lady Doctor Mahnoor Nasir at Civil Hospital Quetta is yet another blot on the ongoing oppression and violence against women in Balochistan which is disfiguring the province’s dignified history day by day to prevent such incidents, awareness and education on a war footing under government patronage is indispensable in society. A comprehensive inquiry into all such incidents and a provincial protection policy based on awareness of motives and causes is an urgent need of the hour.
Todays Women Organization TWO salutes the courage and bravery of young Raziq Tarkai present at the scene who risked his own life to save Dr. Mahnoor’s precious life. Young people like Raziq Tarkai are the pride of our society.
Todays Women Organization TWO has termed the immediate and timely response and actions of Chief Minister Balochistan Mir Sarfaraz Bugti the Provincial Health Department and Balochistan Police on this incident as commendable which helped in providing immediate medical aid to the victim doctor and in the decision to transfer her to Karachi and this swift response helped save Dr. Mahnoor’s life.
Todays Women Organization TWO further stated that the rising incidents of acid attacks murders and other violence against women especially working women are a matter of serious concern. In this situation we strongly appeal to the Government of Balochistan civil society and all NGOs to expand awareness campaigns for the protection of women. Workshops, seminars, and training programs should be organized in schools, colleges, hospitals, and offices so that collective resistance against crimes like acid attacks can be developed.
