As part of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa startup ecosystem scoping study, we are speaking with investors and business leaders across the province to understand how private capital views early-stage ventures in the region.

Institutional venture capital in Pakistan needed someone willing to write the first cheque before the market was ready. Rabeel Warraich did that, founding Sarmayacar in 2017 as the country’s first institutional VC fund, with a portfolio that includes Airlift, Bazaar , Bykea and oladoc.

For the SeedRise KP Fund scoping study, his input addresses two of the harder questions the study is working through: what deployable capital actually looks for at the earliest stages, and how a fund structures itself around a market still building the infrastructure investors elsewhere take for granted.

Informed by nearly a decade of Pakistani deal flow and by Sarmayacar’s newer work in climate finance and expansion into Saudi Arabia , his contribution feeds into design choices on ticket sizing, sector focus and investor readiness.

Building successful startups requires more than great ideas, it requires access to capital, strong mentorship and informed decision making.

These themes shaped an engaging session at the Peshawar Entrepreneurship Program Accelerator Bootcamp, where from SsedRise, Amjad Arbab shared practical insights on accessing growth capital while Stephen Rasmussen discussed entrepreneurship and business growth from a global perspective.

It was encouraging to see founders actively engaging in meaningful discussions and seeking practical guidance for the next stage of their journey.

Great ecosystems are built by learning from those who have helped shape them.

As part of the SeedRise KP Fund Ecosystem Scoping Study which National Incubation Center, Peshawar (NIC Peshawar) is conducting for us, we are engaging with some of Pakistan’s most accomplished investors, ecosystem builders, and thought leaders to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing early-stage startups.

We were privileged to speak with Kashmala Kakakhel of Climaventures, whose work has made her one of the country’s leading voices in green venture capital and startup investing. Her perspectives on the investment landscape, founder readiness, and the evolution of Pakistan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem offered valuable insights that will help inform the design of the SeedRise KP Fund.

Conversations like these are instrumental in ensuring that the Fund is grounded in practical market realities and positioned to create lasting impact.
