Conditional grant to Parent Teacher Councils for the provision of basic/missing facilities in schools accounts for 21% of the total Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education budget for FY 2025–26. The spending capacity of PTCs must be strengthened to ensure efficient and transparent utilisation of the funds, especially for addressing the gaps in girls' schools.

Blue Veins, Malala Fund Hold Leadership Training for School Girls in Peshawar

“I always believed leadership was for others, not for girls like me,” said Eman Bibi, a Class 9 student from a government school in District Nowshera. “This training changed my thinking. It helped me believe that I can become a leader and raise my voice not only for myself but for other girls who are unable to speak about their education problems. I now feel confident that our voices can create change.

Child marriage is not a choice when girls are denied the right to consent, education, protection, and the freedom to shape their own futures. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa must urgently prioritize the pending child marriage legislation and raise the minimum age of marriage for girls to 18. Every girl deserves safety, dignity, opportunity, and the right to decide her future free from pressure and harmful practices.

The resolution, jointly moved by Shazia Tehmas Khan, Ashabar Jadoon, Meher Sultana of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Rehana Ismail of JUI (F), calls upon the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to retain the existing de facto 70:30 education development allocation formula in favor of girls’ education in the upcoming Fiscal Year 2026–2027 budget.

A child’s future should never be interrupted by marriage. While other provinces and ICT have moved toward stronger protections by raising the minimum age of marriage for girls to 18, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa still awaits comprehensive legal reform. The pending child marriage legislation in KP must be prioritized without delay to protect girls’ education, dignity, health, and freedom. It is time for collective action to end child marriages and secure safer futures for every girl.

While Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and ICT have taken steps toward stronger legal protection by raising the minimum age of marriage for girls to 18, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province still remains under outdated colonial-era laws. It is time for KP to also raise the minimum age of marriage for girls to 18, strengthen protections for children, and accelerate efforts to end child marriages so every girl can live with dignity, continue her education, and freely shape her future.
