A group of talented and enthusiastic students in UET Hostel 04 were discussing the important events of the day. They were burning with the desire to discover a route to play their part and help their countrymen out of the disasters. Pakistan was passing through its most critical and uncertain period of its history. But Khyber Pakhtoonkhwa was presenting the scene of an altar, where floods of blood
were in full swing. The tribal areas were burning in the huge flames of war; that are still waiting to be put out. Swabi, Charsadda and Mardan had literally become refugee camps for the largest number of IDPs in history. The bomb blasts, su***de attacks and continuous incidents of violence had brought the clouds of fear and frustration with themselves. All were committed but not aware how to start. But at the end of discussion, they had an idea, or a food for thought. This was a slogan. Let’s VOLUNTEER! This slogan helped them give a practical shape to the aspirations of their friends and find a way forward to lay down the foundations of one of the most loved ones and respected organizations of University campus-THE VOLUNTEERS; that was later on joined by hundreds of students to carry the torch of volunteerism- the basic cause of the organization. They volunteered for a good cause; i.e. the cause of humanity it helped them gather small donations from the students after they had donated their own blood, pocket money, clothes, shoes, and their precious time. This enthusiasm, honesty, sacrifice and volunteerism gave birth to a hope, The VSDR- A caravan for sustainable and durable change.
