🌍✨ Reflections from COP30 in Belém, Brazil — A Milestone for Climate Action & Adaptation in the Global South
SWP has the incredible opportunity to participate in COP30 in Belém, Brazil. Throughout the week, our founder had the privilege to speak at multiple side events, engage in powerful discussions at Goal House, and represent the voices, strengths, and solutions emerging from Pakistan and the wider Global South.
🌱 Pitching Ecolivia at COP30
One of the most rewarding moments was presenting Ecolivia, our climate-resilient olive enterprise from Pakistan, to global investors.
We were humbled by the strong interest and positive response from potential partners interested in supporting sustainable agriculture, green jobs, and community-led adaptation in Pakistan.
🔬 Elevating Inclusive Climate Research
Our founder also had the opportunity to contribute to an important discussion on the need for inclusive and participatory climate research in the Global South.
Meaningful adaptation depends on evidence, local knowledge, and research that reflects the realities of frontline communities. We emphasized why climate research must be:
✔ rooted in local contexts
✔ shaped by youth, women, and Indigenous knowledge
✔ accessible to vulnerable communities
✔ linked directly to policy and finance
This work will continue as we build towards COP31 and beyond.
🌎 Key Outcomes from COP30:
What the Belém Political Package Delivered
COP30 delivered several important political signals—especially for countries in the Global South working to advance adaptation, resilience, and just transitions:
1️⃣ A political signal to triple adaptation finance by 2035, increasing annual flows from $120B to $300B — a long-awaited recognition of adaptation finance gaps.
2️⃣ New initiatives to raise ambition for updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) — helping bridge the commitment-to-action gap.
3️⃣ A new UNFCCC mechanism to guide a “just transition”, ensuring fairness, equity, and inclusion in the shift to a climate-safe economy.
4️⃣ Agreement on indicators for the Global Goal on Adaptation (GGA) — a breakthrough that will help track real progress on resilience.
💬 Looking Ahead
COP30 reinforced that the Global South holds not only climate vulnerabilities—but also solutions, innovation, and leadership. As we move toward COP31, We remain committed to advancing:
🌱 climate adaptation
🌿 community resilience
📈 sustainable livelihoods
💡 inclusive research
🌏 youth leadership
🤝 and global partnerships
A huge thank you to all partners, hosts, and colleagues who made this COP meaningful. The work continues—stronger, more connected, and more hopeful.
Onwards to COP31. 🚀🌍
