The All Pakistan Law Associates (APLA) strongly condemns the brutal police attack on peaceful student protesters of Sindh University, Jamshoro. The students were exercising their constitutional right to protest against the illegal extraction of six canals on the Indus River and irregularities in agricultural land leasing in Sindh. However, instead of addressing their legitimate concerns, the police resorted to violence, physical torture, and illegal arrests, violating basic human rights and freedom of speech, as guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan, 1973.
This blatant abuse of power and serious violation of fundamental rights is unacceptable. APLA demands the immediate release of all detained students and strict action against the police personnel responsible for this unlawful act. We urge the Inspector General of Police Sindh to take immediate notice and direct the D.I.G Hyderabad and S.S.P Jamshoro to conduct an independent inquiry to ensure justice.
APLA stands in full solidarity with the students and warns that any further violations of legal and human rights will not be tolerated. Lawyers across Pakistan are ready to take legal action if justice is not served immediately.
