🌟 From a courtyard classroom to global recognition — a teacher who changed hundreds of lives

When Riffat Arif (widely known as Sister Zeph) began teaching, it was in the courtyard of her home — for children who could not afford school fees. She taught after long days of work, using whatever she could spare to keep children learning.

Over the years her small initiative grew into a full school and an empowerment program: free education for hundreds of children, vocational training for women, support for families in financial distress, and self-defence classes for girls. Her quiet, relentless work earned international recognition when she was awarded the Global Teacher Prize in 2023.

What her story reminds us:
1. Change does not need perfect resources — it needs consistent care and courage.
2. Investing in education for the poorest children multiplies opportunity across families and communities.
3. Local educators often fill gaps that systems cannot — and they deserve our attention, support, and partnership.

Confidence is a skill, not a personality trait, which can be learnt.

In January 2019, I made a decision that changed the direction of my life. I started my career as a teacher - not because I was naturally confident, but because I wasn’t. Talking on stage, presenting ideas, or speaking in front of people used to feel overwhelming. I knew I lacked confidence - and I wanted to overcome it.

Teaching became my transformation ground. Every lecture refined my expression. Every question from a student sharpened my clarity. Every lecture improved my voice. Every interaction strengthened my confidence. Every day in front of a class rewired my mindset.

Today, I can speak confidently in front of hundreds of people without hesitation - and it didn’t happen by accident. It happened because I worked on myself with intention and persistence.

And there’s another beautiful outcome of this journey:
This personal challenge eventually gave birth to InfoKnow Foundation’s free education coaching, where we support needy and deserving students with access to knowledge and empowerment. What began as a personal struggle evolved into a mission for community impact.

Many of my classmates, teachers, and friends know this story well - you witnessed the journey from hesitant beginnings to confident leadership. If you’re reading this, I’d be grateful if you shared your memory or thoughts in the comments - it might inspire someone who’s currently facing the same challenges.

To anyone battling self-doubt or insecurity:
👉 You don’t need to be great to start - but you must start to become great.
👉 Confidence is learned.
👉 Growth is chosen.
👉 And one brave decision can change not just your life - but the lives of many others.

I’m grateful I took that step in 2019 - because it didn’t just change me… it allowed me to help change others.

📘 Education - The Real Key to Progress

SDG 4 - Quality Education for All
Every child deserves the chance to learn - not just the wealthy, not just the lucky - everyone. Good education gives children confidence, purpose, and a future they can build with their own hands.

SDG 5 - Girls Deserve Equal Learning Opportunities
1. When a girl receives education, it doesn’t just change her life - it changes her family, her community, and future generations.
2. Educating girls is one of the strongest ways to uplift society.

SDG 10 - Education Helps Reduce Inequality
Education opens doors that poverty tries to close. A child from a struggling family can rise, achieve, and excel - simply because someone gave them a chance to learn.

How Infoknow Foundation Is Making This Real

At Infoknow Foundation, we are working on the ground - not just in theory - by:
1. tutoring selected bright and needy students
2. encouraging and prioritizing female students
3. helping students strengthen academic fundamentals
4. improving communication and computer learning skills
5. supporting students with stationery, books, bags, and other study tools

We don’t just tell students to dream big -
we help create the conditions that make those dreams possible.

Our belief
A better Pakistan starts with better education.
And real change comes from giving opportunities to those who need it most.

🔥 The Reality We Cannot Ignore

1. Many children — especially girls — are out of school.
The first graphs show that millions of children in Pakistan are not attending school, and girls are affected more than boys, especially in provinces like Balochistan and Sindh.

2. Girl enrollment drops as education level increases.
Another graph shows that many girls join pre-primary and primary, but as school level rises (middle, high, degree), the number goes down sharply. This means girls are often forced to leave school early.

3. In some areas, girls face more barriers than boys.
The regional chart shows that in places like Balochistan, FATA, and Sindh, a higher percentage of girls are out of school compared to boys. This comes from issues like cultural pressure, distance, safety, and financial challenges.

4. ICT (Islamabad Capital Territory) shows hope.
ICT has the highest continuation rate and the lowest number of girls out of school. This proves that improvement is possible when resources, awareness, and support are available.

How InfoKnow is helping fight these problems

✔ We help students access learning regardless of background
InfoKnow provides quality educational support to students who might otherwise be left behind due to financial, regional, or social barriers.
✔ We reward punctuality, honesty, and effort
Through scholarships and performance-based support, we encourage students to take their education seriously and stay consistent.
✔ We focus on girls’ education
Girls are more likely to drop out — so InfoKnow gives extra push and encouragement for girls to stay in school and grow in confidence and skills.
✔ We guide families and create awareness
We talk to parents to help them understand that education is not a luxury — it is the future of their children.
✔ We don’t just admit students — we stay with them
We monitor their attendance, homework, discipline, and overall progress so they don’t fall behind.
✔ We promote equality in learning

📊 Out-of-School Children (OOSC) by Gender & Region - A Stark Reality

This chart shows a painful pattern, in almost every region of Pakistan, girls are more likely to be out of school than boys.

1. Balochistan: Girls 72%, Boys 61%
2. FATA: Girls 78%, Boys 47%
3. Gilgit Baltistan: Girls 54%, Boys 43%
4. Sindh: Girls 58%, Boys 45%
5. Punjab: Girls 50%, Boys 44%

Only in ICT (Islamabad), girls are less out of school (12% vs 19%), showing that when access & safety improve - girls do stay in education.

🔎 What this tells us:
1. Gender inequality in education is still widespread.
2. Many girls are kept home due to cultural, financial, or safety barriers.
3. Rural and underdeveloped regions show the highest female dropout rates.

💪 How Infoknow Foundation is actively addressing this gap:
At Infoknow, we focus strongly on female inclusion in education through:
1. Priority admission for girls
2. Safe and respectful learning environments
3. Supportive academic guidance
4. Communication & confidence-building activities
5. Removing financial barriers through low-cost or fully-funded tuition
6. Encouraging families to allow girls to pursue higher grades

🌼 Our belief:
Educating a girl means educating a family, a community - and building lasting social progress.

We are committed to ensuring that more girls enter, continue, and complete their education - so that these yellow bars shrink, and opportunities for young women grow.

📊 Girls’ Education in Pakistan: The Drop That Matters

This latest data on girls’ enrollment (2022 - 23) reveals a pattern we can’t ignore:
1. 9.44 million girls enroll at the primary level
2. But only 1.84 million remain at the high school level
3. And just 340,000 girls reach degree-level education

This steep decline shows that the problem is not at the starting line - it’s at the transition points where girls leave education due to:
1. lack of academic support
2. family responsibilities
3. financial challenges
4. social barriers
5. limited encouragement for higher learning

🎯 Where Infoknow Foundation makes a direct difference:
We specifically support girls beyond primary level, right where the dropout curve accelerates. Our efforts include:
1. priority selection for female students
2. safe, structured academic environments
3. mentorship, confidence-building & communication skills
4. tuition assistance & study materials
5. encouraging long-term learning, not just short-term schooling

🙌 Our belief:
A girl entering school is progress -
But a girl staying in school is transformation.

With every female student we support, we are actively pushing this curve upward - moving more girls from primary → high school → higher secondary → degree education.

This is not just education - it’s empowerment, dignity, and generational impact.

For the next two months, Copies and Stationery will be free for all the selected students.

📉 A National Crisis We Can’t Ignore

This data shows a heartbreaking truth: over 27 million children in Pakistan are out of school. The problem is especially severe in rural areas (23%), and for pre-primary children in provinces like Balochistan where 78% of children aged 3 - 5 are not in school. Pakistan’s overall literacy stands at just 54%, with a critical gender gap: 66% literacy for males vs. only 41% for females.

🔎 What this tells us:
1. Access to education is unequal across regions.
2. Girls are disproportionately left behind.
3. Early childhood education is severely neglected.
4. The challenge is not just enrollment - but ensuring continuity and completion.

💪 How Infoknow Foundation is part of the solution:
At Infoknow Foundation, we are not waiting for policy - we are acting now on the ground by:
1. Supporting students who otherwise would not continue their studies
2. Prioritizing female education through safe, supportive learning environments
3. Providing free or extremely low-cost tuition, materials, and study support
4. Building confidence and academic stability to reduce dropout risk
5. Creating an environment where education is encouraged, not abandoned

📚 Our belief:
Every child who stays in school—because of support, guidance, and opportunity—directly reduces this national statistic.

We may not fix the entire 27 million-child crisis overnight, but we are determined to change it one student, one classroom, one community at a time.
