Multan, October 24, 2025 — The first “Flood Disaster Prevention & Climate Change Awareness Campaign” was successfully held in Basti Gujjar, Suraj Miani, Multan, under the KOICA Project titled “Establishment of Flood Disaster Prevention Master Plan & Construction of Stormwater Storage System in Multan City for Climate Change Adaptation.”
This campaign is part of the capacity-building activities of the Project Management Consultant (PMC) team, aiming to enhance community awareness and preparedness against urban flooding and the growing impacts of climate change.
The campaign series is scheduled to continue from October 2025 until the end of June 2026, covering multiple flood-prone areas in Multan.
Organized by the PMC team and implemented by Roshni Welfare Organization (RWO), the campaign features educational sessions, video screenings, participatory discussions, and the distribution of informative pamphlets to help residents better understand the causes of flooding and practical safety measures.
The inaugural session was attended by key representatives from partner institutions, including:
• Mr. Go Harim, Deputy Country Director, KOICA Pakistan Office
• Mr. Atta Ul Haq Khokhar, Additional Director General, Multan Development Authority (MDA)
• Mr. Abdul Moeed, Assistant Director, Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA)
In her remarks, Mr. Go Harim highlighted KOICA’s dedication to building climate-resilient communities in Pakistan through both infrastructure and educational initiatives.
Mr. Atta Ul Haq Khokhar (MDA) emphasized the importance of incorporating flood prevention measures into Multan’s urban development plans, while Mr. Abdul Moeed (WASA) reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to improving drainage systems and stormwater management capacity to mitigate urban flood risks.
Through this initiative, local residents are empowered to take an active role in protecting their neighborhoods, improving preparedness for extreme weather events, and supporting the broader vision of climate change adaptation in Punjab Province.
In the coming months, the remaining campaigns will be conducted across other flood-prone neighborhoods of Multan, aiming to further enhance public awareness and strengthen the community’s resilience against future urban flooding events.
