A very kind man named Eduardo went to the countryside and bought a donkey from an old farmer for 5,000 pesos. The farmer agreed to give him the animal the next day.
The next day, the farmer said to him,
"I'm sorry, Eduardo, but I have bad news: the donkey is dead."
"Okay," Eduardo replied, "then give me my money back."
The seller replied,
"I can't. I've already spent it."
Eduardo said,
"Okay, give me the donkey anyway."
"Why?" asked the old man, "What do you intend to do with it?"
"I'll put it in a lottery," Eduardo replied.
"You're crazy, how can you put a dead donkey in a lottery?"
"I won't tell anyone that it's dead, of course."
A month later, the farmer met Eduardo again and asked him,
"What happened to the donkey?"
Eduardo replied:
"I put it in a lottery, sold 500 tickets at 20 pesos each, and earned 10,000 pesos."
"And no one complained?" asked the old man.
"Only the winner," Eduardo said, "but I gave him back his 20 pesos."
In time, Eduardo became a politician. He became mayor, congressman, and then governor. He used everyone's money to fill his own pockets. We all know how. A man who never worked honestly and never did anything productive is now very rich... because he found many dead donkeys along the way and put them in a lottery for naive people. The best part of this story is that he keeps finding more dead donkeys. He wants to become governor again! There are many who have no shame.
Don't let them keep selling you dead donkeys... Let's be careful. Let's open our eyes and, better yet, our minds, our judgment, and a lot of common sense. Think about the future of your children and your family.
