✝️☁️ The Second Coming of Christ in the Gospel and the “Coming of Allah” in the Qur’an... A Striking Parallel?
📖 The Qur’an says:
وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ وَالْمَلَكُ صَفًّا صَفًّا
“And your Lord will come, and the angels, rank upon rank.”
📚 Qur’an, Al-Fajr 89:22
The Arabic text does not say, “the command of your Lord will come.” Rather, it explicitly says:
👉 وَجَاءَ رَبُّكَ
“And your Lord will come.”
Similarly:
أَن يَأْتِيَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِي ظُلَلٍ مِّنَ الْغَمَامِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ
“That Allah should come to them in canopies of clouds, along with the angels...”
📚 Qur’an, Al-Baqarah 2:210
Now consider the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, as described in the Gospel:
✝️ “They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”
📖 Matthew 24:30
Jesus Christ will come with His angels:
✝️ “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him...”
📖 Matthew 25:31
🔥 The parallel is striking:
☁️ Qur’an: Allah comes with the angels amid the clouds.
☁️ Gospel: Jesus Christ comes with the angels upon the clouds.
⚖️ Qur’an: Resurrection, judgment and Hell.
📖 Al-Fajr 89:21–23
⚖️ Gospel: Christ’s coming and the Final Judgment.
📖 Matthew 25:31–46
Islamic tradition also speaks of the return of Jesus the Messiah in the last days and assigns Him a significant role. Authentic hadith traditions describe His descent, including Sahih al-Bukhari, Book of the Prophets, Hadith 3448, and Sahih Muslim, Book of Faith, Hadith 155. According to these traditions, Jesus will return, confront falsehood and establish justice.
At the same time, the Qur’an attributes ultimate judgment to Allah:
📖 إِنِ الْحُكْمُ إِلَّا لِلَّهِ
“Judgment belongs to none but Allah.”
Qur’an, Yusuf 12:40
And:
📖 مَالِكِ يَوْمِ الدِّينِ
“Master of the Day of Judgment.”
Qur’an, Al-Fatihah 1:4
Yet in the biblical account, Jesus Christ not only comes upon the clouds accompanied by His angels, but also judges all nations.
📖 Matthew 25:31–46; John 5:22–23; Revelation 19:11–16
✝️ From my Christian perspective, this parallel raises a profound question:
If the Qur’an associates the eschatological coming with clouds and angels with Allah and the Lord, while the Gospel attributes this same kind of glorious coming and judgment to Jesus Christ, could this point toward the extraordinary identity of Christ?
🔎 The deeper question is this:
Why does the Gospel attribute to Jesus Christ the kind of end-time coming, accompanied by clouds, angels and Final Judgment, that the Qur’an associates with “the Lord” and “Allah”?
✝️ Gospel: Christ will come with the angels.
☪️ Qur’an: The Lord will come with the angels.
☁️ Gospel: Christ will come upon the clouds.
☁️ Qur’an: Allah will come amid the clouds.
