The Federal Constitutional Court set a terrible precedent last week when it approved the marriage of a Christain child with a 30 year old Muslim man, undermining recent progress on the issue of child marriage.

Aurat March Lahore sees this as part of how our judicial system has failed women, gender diverse people and girls. The courts refusal to see power dynamics of age and religion at play in the case speak to how we are treated in society.

Today is to mark January 25, 2014, when mass graves were found in Tootak, near Khuzdar, Balochistan. Twelve years on, Balochistan remains the site of mass injustice marked by structural oppression.
Aurat March Lahore calls for an end to violent state practices in Balochistan as well as an end to the system of economic extraction, dehumanisation, surveillance and prolonged repression.

Progressive Students Collective (PSC) and Aurat March Lahore call for an urgent protest to demand the immediate and unconditional release of Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chattha on 24 January 2026, Saturday, at 3 PM outside Lahore Press Club. Join us to stand up for two human rights lawyers who have always stood up for us!

********************************
Imaan and Hadi were arrested on their way to court this morning (23 January). The arrest was carried out brutally and no FIR was presented. Imaan and Hadi have been harassed for months in relation to a case under the draconian PECA laws. After the restoration of bail that was cancelled last week, the authorities have brought one case after another against them. Today, after hours of being unlawfully detained, the authorities sought 7 days physical remand from an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad. The judge rejected the demand, but granted 14 days' judicial remand instead. It is alleged, though the media was barred from the courtroom, that they are being charged under an FIR filed in September 2025 regarding a protest by lawyers outside the Islamabad High Court.

It is plain as day that this is a case of political persecution!

From the archives: Ra**st Ho Tum performed at a protest organised in response to the motorway gang r**e case in 2020.

The video resonates today because, five years later, we still live in a world where state institutions – the police, our courts, our government – continue to discredit victims and survivors of patriarchal violence. The anger we carried that day came back when a three-member bench of the Supreme Court of Pakistan last week converted a r**e conviction of 20 years rigorous imprisonment to five years for zina/fornication under Section 496-B of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The judgment is a chilling reminder that the violence enacted on our bodies will never be fully legible to the patriarchal state. By collapsing sexual violence into the archaic crime of “fornication”, the court has placed the blame on the survivor, rather than holding perpetrators accountable. It reinforces a long and dangerous history in which survivors of patriarchal violence are institutionally discredited.
While feminists have fought relentlessly to reform laws and force the justice system to recognise sexual violence as violence, judgments such as these feel like many steps backwards. The judgment is particularly demoralising because it comes at a time when the courts have upheld multiple injustices in the country.

However, this is not a time to despair – moments like this strengthen our resolve to fight for a better world. Women, transgender and marginalised folks were never handed progress; it has always been wrested through resistance.
Let this be your cue to join us. Organise with feminists in your city, start an aurat march if it doesn’t exist around you. Organise, because we have a long fight ahead of us, but we will fight because our survival and safety depend on it.

Yesterday, we hosted a teach-in on the 27th Constitutional Amendment with Reema Omer as the guest speaker at . She highlighted that the 27th Amendment marks an unprecedented time in Pakistan's history and requires an equally unprecedented response from us to protect our freedoms and liberties. While the judiciary in Pakistan has a chequered past, often rubber-stamping military dictatorships, it has always had some judges who have upheld freedoms and been on the right side of history. Our history shows that neither executive or judiciary having unchecked powers has been a good idea.

We call on all feminists and progressives to come together in a united front against these attacks on our Constitution and fundamental rights. Action starts with open discussion and coalition building.

🚨 Aurat March Lahore condemns the unconscionable treatment and forced deportation of Afghan refugees.
We stand in solidarity with Afghan refugees and condemn the government's aggressive drive to detain and deport refugees, many of whom face dire circumstances upon their return.

Our policies must reflect empathy, humanity and human rights, not the cruelty of imperial powers.

✊ Aurat March Lahore demands that all deportations be halted immediately.
