Houbara Foundation was established in 1995 for conservation of the Houbara Bustard, a shy and beautiful wild bird which migrates from the Central Asian States to Pakistan every year in the winters and returns to its breeding grounds after the wintering season. The Foundation works in collaboration with reputed conservation organizations and law-enforcement authorities to curb the trends of over-hu

nted, illegal trapping and loss of habitats due to over-grazing which contribute to the decline. For conservation of the species, the Foundation places strong emphasis on welfare and poverty alleviation of habitat communities with which the houbara co-exists. These communities live harsh lives without basic amenities, like health-care, potable water, education, skills, communication infra-structure and employment. Betterment of their lives contributes to greater protection of the Houbara.

🐦🌿 Gray Francolin Thriving at CBC

The Gray Francolin (Ortygornis pondicerianus), locally known as Bhura Teetar (بھورا ΨͺیΨͺΨ±), is an important native bird species thriving within the desert ecosystem of the H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Conservation Breeding Centre (CBC), Lal Suhanra, Bahawalpur.

Well adapted to dry grasslands, scrub and open landscapes, this ground-dwelling bird spends much of its time foraging among natural vegetation for seeds, grains and insects.

Its continued presence at CBC reflects the value of maintaining protected natural habitats where indigenous wildlife can find food, shelter and suitable conditions to survive and reproduce naturally.

Every native species, whether large or small, contributes to the biodiversity and ecological balance of the desert ecosystem. πŸŒΏπŸ’š

Grey Heron ( Ardea cinerea) is a long- legged wading bird of the heron family Ardeidae. The species is native to temperate Europe, Asia and some parts of Africa. Grey Heron ( Ardea cinerea) is primarily a winter visitor in Pakistan, however its resident population stays in Pakistan year-round and breeds locally in some areas of the country.The major influx of the species migrates to Pakistan from Siberia and Central Asia through Central Asian Flyway from September to November and stays in Pakistan until February. The plumage of birds is ashy- grey above and greyish- white below with some black on flanks. The adult bird has white head and neck with black supercilium, long pinkish- yellow beak and long legs. The species feeds on fish, amphibians,crustaceans, voles, rabbits and other small wetland birds. The species nests on tall trees, bushes,ground, reed- beds, cliffs near lakes, rivers, ponds, marshes, wetlands and riverine forests. The female bird usually lays 3-5 eggs which need 25 days of incubation to hatch chicks.In H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al- Nahyan Conservation Breeding Centre Lalsuhanara, a a protected enclosure of 15km Γ— 11km area has been maintained for natural breeding of antelopes. The habitat of the enclosure comprises 23 rain fed large size water ponds, grassland,vegetated sand dunes and a large number of trees. The species can be spotted into the habitat of the Conservation Breeding Centre during the winter months from November to February near water ponds, sometimes roosting on trees. The Conservation Breeding Centre Lalsuhanara provides a safe home for migratory and indigenous bird species, contributing a lot to wildlife conservation in Pakistan.

The Eurasian Green-winged Teal (Anas crecca) is a remarkable migratory duck that travels to Pakistan through the Central Asian Flyway to spend the winter months.
At the H.H. Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan Conservation Breeding Centre (CBC), Lal Suhanra, Bahawalpur, flocks of around 15–70 birds can be spotted during the winter season. The Centre's 15 km Γ— 11 km protected habitat, including 23 rain-fed water reservoirs, provides these migratory visitors with a safe environment for feeding and resting.
