There are moments when the heart feels entirely too heavy to carry the weight of another heartbreaking tragedy. At White Ribbon, this tragedy has shaken us deeply. It took us time to report this incident here and talk about this. It forces us to stop, reflect, and ask the hard questions: How do we truly combat a culture where toxic violence masks itself behind professional status, respectable titles, and educated exteriors?
The recent news surrounding the murder of Hina Javed by a former university professor in Islamabad is not just another headline, it is a devastating, alarming reminder of how unsafe women remain, even behind closed doors.
Education, position, and social standing do not guarantee safety or respect. When we advocate for male alliance and urge men to step up as champions for gender equality, we must also be honest about what allyship truly requires. It is not enough for men to simply refrain from violence; male alliance means actively identifying, calling out, and refusing to tolerate the red flags in other men.
Excusing or ignoring toxic behavior in friends, colleagues, or family members creates the very environment where such atrocities take root.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with Hina’s family and all victims of gender-based violence. We cannot let outrage fade into silence.
