Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) & Birth Defects Foundation Unite for Advanced Healthcare Training and Patient Care Across Pakistan
On Monday, 8th June, an important Zoom meeting was conducted between Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Vice Chairperson Dr. Sana Yasir from Karachi and Birth Defects Foundation, focusing on collaboration, professional training, and improving healthcare services for Intersex, CAH-46 XX, and Transgender patients across Pakistan.
The meeting aimed to strengthen national and international training opportunities for healthcare professionals to ensure that patients suffering from birth defects and gender-related medical conditions receive more professional, compassionate, and advanced medical care.
Representing Birth Defects Foundation in this informative and experience-sharing session were:
• Ansar Javaid – Chairman & Psychologist, Lahore.
• Prof. Dr. Muhammad Afzal Sheikh – Chief Surgeon Lahore
• Dr. Nasir Mahmood – Bahawalpur, Head of Research CAH-46 XX
• Dr. Narjis Zahra – Karachi
• Ms. Furqan – Manager IT, Data Analyst & Patient Coordinator Lahore.
The session proved to be highly productive and served as an excellent platform for knowledge sharing, future planning, and professional collaboration. During the meeting, Dr. Sana Yasir graciously offered PMA’s support for collaborative training programs, professional certifications, capacity building, and enhancing the expertise of Birth Defects Foundation at both national and international levels.
Birth Defects Foundation warmly welcomed this collaboration and sincerely appreciated the commitment of PMA and Vice Chairperson Dr. Sana Yasir toward improving medical care, awareness, research, and training for Intersex, Transgender, and Birth Defect patients.
Together, this partnership is expected to open new doors for humanitarian healthcare services, medical education, and patient care in Pakistan.

Women who are born without a uterus (Uterus) or whose uterus is extremely small can now, with the help of modern medical science, undergo Uterus Transplantation using a donor uterus. This gives them hope to fulfill their dream of family life and motherhood in the future.

This important matter was presented before the Islamic Ideology Council of Pakistan by the Birth Defects Foundation on 14 June 2025, seeking guidance from an Islamic perspective. The Foundation had received many young girls suffering from congenital absence of the uterus or severely underdeveloped uterus, making it impossible for them to build a family life naturally.

Alhamdulillah, in the 44th meeting of the Islamic Ideology Council held on 7 May 2026, it was decided that:

“Uterus Transplantation is permissible in Islam, provided that all Islamic, ethical, and medical conditions are fulfilled.”

At present, this treatment is being performed in only a few countries including America, Sweden, Turkey, Brazil, India, and the UK. However, it remains an extremely expensive procedure.

Pakistan also has countless such cases, and the Birth Defects Foundation is receiving patients who are in desperate need of this treatment and support.

The dream of the Birth Defects Foundation is to establish a modern hospital in Pakistan where, under one roof, treatment for the following can be provided:

✔ Cleft Lip & Palate Children
✔ Intersex / Gender Ambiguous Children
✔ Congenital 18 Types of Birth Defects
✔ Pediatric Surgical Cases
✔ More than 18 types of congenital abnormalities

وہ بچے جنس واضح نہ ہونے والے بچوں کی ایک قسم سی اے ایچ 46 ایکس ایکس جو زندگی بھر استعمال ہونے والی دو ادویات ہائیڈروکارٹیزون (Hydrocortisone) اور فلوروکورٹیسون (Fludrocortisone) لے رہے ہیں، ان کے لیے باقاعدہ سہولت فراہم کر دی گئی ہے۔

ہر مہینے کے پہلے ہفتے کا دن

اب یہ دونوں ادویات برتھ ڈیفیکٹس فاؤنڈیشن کی جانب سے 100% مفت فراہم کی جائیں گی۔

Important announcement for the parents of children who are taking two lifelong medications (Hydrocortisone and Fludrocortisone):

Good news for children with Intersex (CAH 46 XX):
The Birth Defect Foundation will now provide both of these medications 100% free of cost on the first Saturday of every month.
This facility is available to all patients, regardless of where they are receiving treatment.
